I live in a nice, residential neighborhood, nice families, kids on bikes, that sort of thing. And it’s a deathtrap.
Why? Because people insist on parking their cars in the street. They ALL have garages and driveways, yet they park in the street. I understand if your garage is filled wioth junk, but how about your driveway? No, apparently it’s too much trouble to back out of a driveway.
So as a result of having a stream of parked cars on either side, my street is a little over one car wide. It’s difficult for two cars in opposite directions to navigate this street. Kids will be playing in front of one of the parked cars and then walk out from behind it, where they can’t see any oncoming cars who also can’t see them.
They will even do this in the winter, making it difficult for the plows to do a decent job and incresing the risk that someone will slide into their car.
Why? Is it THAT much more trouble to pull into your driveway? I do it every day - hell, I’m one of those nuts that puts the car in the garage. Are you Batman or something and have to be able to launch the Batmobile on a moment’s notice? I just don’t get it.
