Another classical music question

I need the name of a piece of classical music, and I just know you guys can help me.

It’s opera, an aria or something similar, two female voices, probably both soprano.

WB likes to play it for ads and previews of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel - especially if it’s an Angelus situation.

It’s also in The Mirror Has Two Faces when Jeff Bridges character is listening to music all by himself. (The movie was on tape, the credits were illegible, and the soundtrack doesn’t have it.)

It’s very haunting music, and I’d love to get my hands on it. Any help you can give is very appreciated.

Dost thou think, because thou art virtuous, there shall be no more cakes and ale?

The IMDB lists the following for Additional Music (opposed to Original Music):

Léo Delibes (from “Lakmé”)
Maurice Jarre (from “Lawrence of Arabia (1962)”)
Giacomo Puccini (from “Turandot”)
Sergei Rachmaninov (from “Second piano concerto”)

There’s no info on music from commercials, so I can’t cross-reference.

My guess would be the Puccini, then the Delibes.

Wrong thinking is punished, right thinking is just as swiftly rewarded. You’ll find it an effective combination.

Heheheh. I know it. I will give you a hint that comes from a completely bastardized version: Yanni. You will hardly think his version is worth it. Will I give you the name? hehehehe

Well now I feel bad for not answering it. It is probably Delibes “Lakme” opera. The track you are looking for is #2 on the EMI Classics disc which features highlights from the opera. It is called “Duettino: Viens Mallika…” - the whole disk is wonderful.

You guys are so cool!

SqrCub, is there any way you can get me the catalog number of the CD you’re referring to? I’m having the worst trouble finding it on CDNow.

Phouka–

I’m not sure, but I think the disk Sqrl is referring to is called “Golden Opera”. The selection is wonderful.

I have it at home–if nobody posts more info I’ll look at the catalog number and email it to you later.

Ignorant since 1972

Try searching here.

If that doesn’t work you can also find the selection in DELIBES
