Another clueless newbie bites the dust: a chronology of doom -or- Thank you, DavidB

The Ace of Swords

Mmm’kay

It’s that spinning…spinning spinning. The only thing spinning more is Lord Acton in his grave.

Hey, David B is a big boy. He should be able to flick us newbies including little old 56 posts me, like a booger.

In fact, I think he rather likes doing that.

That’s a mighty big moderator hard-on you’ve got for being a newbie and all, Reverend Mykeru. Since your primary purpose around here seems to be to bitch about how the place is run, may I suggest you email Nocktober and find out where he’s hanging about in exile? And watch out for that door on the way out. It can really sting.

What part of don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out is unintelligible to people who come here, find it an oppressive place, but decide to rant their ass off about what a terrible place it is, how bad the mods are, why there are better boards other places, but continue to argue. If this board isn’t to your liking, simply leave. You obviously are acquainted with the rules, you seem to have a grasp of the proclivities of the mods/admins, you seem to have lurked(in many cases) to where you should have known what you’re getting yourself into. But still, you whine, and bitch, and moan and piss about it as if you somehow wish to be somewhere else, yet you still want to be here. But you just can’t stand being here under such an oppressive regime. Fine. Leave!

I can only conclude that this board, with all of it’s shortcomings, is one of the better ones out there. Just don’t insult our intelligence, such as it is, by suggesting that we are an inferior board. Everyone here makes mistakes. Just like other posters on other boards. But, again, if we infuriate you so, then leave. Why would you wish to associate yourself with such obviously inferior people?

I personally find that the mods/admins on this board are very tolerant. I’ve been warned at least three times about my posts. I’m still here. I had the common sense to look at my post and back off. It just isn’t that hard to live within the framework of this board, unless you are just being a gadfly in space, and happened by the SDMB. I find the powers that be rather lenient.

You, whomever you are, might find this a rather onerous place, much like all of the onerous places, people, things on your homepage. If you have one.

Oh, bullshit. Fucking bullshit. You didn’t say “Which HET theory, cowboy?” or “The disproof depends on which version you’re talking about,” or anything like that.

You said,

and you weren’t talking about differentiating among the various theories. How do I know? Am I reading your mind? No, I’m reading what you fucking wrote. Later on in the thread you posted

This is the post you wanted! This is what you were looking for in the OP, and you say so right there! Not that he spell out the evidence of his version of the Hollow Earth - he never did that and that was OK with you - you needed to hear that he’s aware it’s a crackpot theory and that he’s looking for a response to another person!

Look, say that you thought he was a troll and you overreacted. Or say that you thought he was a troll and you were within your rights because your word is law. Or say that you didn’t like the cut of his jaw and you can do what you damn well please with Moderator under your name.

But have the balls to own up to what you did, and stop with the bullshit.

[sarcasm]I think I get it now. The number of posts under your name is how you garner respect around here. I think I will go post a bunch in Cafe Society about Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Friends, and what song I consider the best of all time to get my post count up. What should I shoot for? 1,000? 2,000? Or do I not earn respect until I reach 5+ digits? Please let me know, because if I happen to have a flash of insight which could make a difference in someone’s life, I’d hate to be ignored for my (relatively) low post count.[/sarcasm]

David B, like it or not, by moderating this board you represent a group of people that has dedicated themselves to “fighting ignorance.” Your actions, whether in mod-mode or member-mode, reflect on everyone else who administrates, moderates, and posts on this board. If Nocktober did or said something ignorant, acting like a pretentious jerk (which, IMHO, you did) does little good. Your “logical bones” comment, while obviously within the scope of the rules of GD, was unwarranted. I think that’s all people are trying to get across to you.

You are, not to put too fine a point on it, full of shit…not to mention being utterly disingenuous. I was not speaking for Nocktober. There is no way any reasonable reading of my statements could be construed as “speaking for Nocktober.” At most, I was asking you to give a newbie the benefit of the doubt…truly a most terrible and distressing suggestion.

Also, if you’ll notice, my guess of the circumstances behind Nocktober’s question was precisely fucking correct…which probably means you should have listened to me from the beginning.

Plus, I noticed you conveniently neglected to mention where you directly insulted him first…in GD, where you are a moderator, and where you presumably are cognizant of the rules.

Tell me again how he was to arrive at any other conclusion, based on his experience, that the mods here aren’t bound by the same rules as the rest of us.

Tell me again, given his experience, how he was wrong.

He sure as hell did. He stated precisely what he wanted in the OP. He wanted “the main disproof of the hollow earth theory.” What, you wanted the specific version of the HET because some of them are more correct than others? Bullshit. You wanted blood…otherwise you’d have posted a link or two and moved the whole thread to GQ, since it can easily be answered factually.

You acted like a jerk in the thread, and you’re acting like a bigger jerk now. You should apologize and Nocktober should be invited back, if he should want to return.

You insulted a poster in GD. He insulted you back. He got banned. You’re not even going to get a slap on the wrist. This is conclusive proof that the playing field is indeed not level. Moderators aren’t even bound by their own rules.

Are you kidding? You should post about where I can find The Jaquio these days! I’ve got a score to settle with him…
Ha!ha!ha!ha!Hm.hm.hm.hm.

I’d rather stay and see it run fairly.

Huh?

I thought your user name came from a video game called Ninja Gaiden. Nevermind…

Ogre: You are a moron.

That was, of course, just an example of an insult that, if somebody had said it in GD, it would be a violation of the rules. However, I didn’t say that. What I said, as has been explained multiple times in this thread, is not at all against the rules. Hell, even most of the people who are still complaining here have admitted that much. It would not have been a violation of the rules no matter who said it. Get it? So that kind of kills your whole “playing field isn’t level” argument.

Let’s try the common sense approach, since the other common sense approach is not penetrating your veil of legalistic blather.

You, not knowing very much about astrophysics, go to an open house question-and-answer session of, say, the American Society of Astrophysics (any question valid, really)…cause hey, you’ve got some questions, and you figure they have the answers. Now, you understand the rules of polite society and common courtesy, so you ask a simple, direct question.

“I’ve heard of this stuff called aether. Why can’t it exist?”

Immediately, one of the moderators stands up and exclaims, “What the hell is wrong with you?!”

Not an insult (not directly, anyway, clever moderator!), but would you be entirely justified in giving the rude bastard the finger and calling him an ass?

Fuck. Yes.

You were an unconscionably rude bastard, and you’re still hiding behind legalism right now. Your question was an insult…and Nocktober was absolutely justified in calling you down over it and your subsequent snotty behavior.

I just had a look in GD, and saw that the thread in question has been closed permanently. David B, used his moderator hat when he closed it. Just thought I’d point that out.

Nice spin job. I point out that your first argument is completely invalid, so suddenly you’re arguing something else. Exactly what I expected. Thanks!

Actually, you’re right. Haven’t played that game in ages. It’s late and I’m tired and I can’t seem to pull myself away from this thread.

The “nice spin job,” incidentally, was in reference to Ogre. (Lord Ashtar snuck a message in there.)

No sir. You did insult another poster. The fact that you did so under the letter of the law does not make it right, nor does it mean that it should be legal.

In other words, legal spin aside, you acted like a giant asshole, and Nocktober was still entirely justified in calling you down.

Yawn. Thanks for playing. Now go run along.

I am playing. When you start making sense, I’ll try to be a bit more serious.

DAVID B –

I asked myself, I said “Self? Could DAVID B know the rules a teensy bit better than I do?” And myself said, “Hell, no. Why should he?” The rules are spelled out there for everyone to read, and despite DAVID’s frequently-demonstrated belief in the superiority of his own intelligence, there are no foreign words used, no strange concepts conveyed, that he has some insight into that you do not. There is no Moderator University, wherein you can take “Advanced Insight Into The Rules” (M402, prerequisites: M202, “Intermediate Rules,” and M102, “The Rules, Your Ass, And A Hole In The Ground: A Comparative Study”).

The idea that you, O Great And Powerful Moderator, know more about the ground rules around here than the hundreds of others of us that have the ability to read them and the brain to absorb them . . . It is to laugh. So I do: Ha. Ha, and feh.

DAVID, you were being an insuffereable jerk, and what a shocker that is. (“In other news: fire hot; water wet.”) The NEWBIE’s only mistake was in not being savvy enough to Pit you for it if he had to resort to direct insults, or in not being adept enough to pay you back in your own coin while avoiding direct insults. (Something like, “Do you not have a brain cell in your head?” would have served, I imagine.)

But if for that transgression the transgressor’s head must roll – fine by me. Especially once he tearful announced he was leaving. Just don’t tell me you know more about the code of conduct around here than untold thousands of the rest of us, because that’s crap. And don’t act like you weren’t being a jerk, because you were. You goaded the guy into laying his head on the block, and once he did, you sliced it off. I’m sure you can live with that – I know I can – but let’s not pretend that’s not exactly what happened, because it was.
