Another cool thing I didn't know about

The Haka in football warmups. Lots more vid at YouTube.

Why is a Texas team named for a Hellenistic culture doing a Maori war dance?

New Zealand (the ‘All Blacks’) and some of the Pacific Island rugby teams do a war dance before international rugby matches.

After the filming of the Lord of the Rings, the stunt crew did a Haka (as a gesture of respect) for Viggo Mortenson and Bernard Hill (who played Aragorn and Theoden).

The NZ All Blacks do the best version of that haka - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdJ1Z_rw2wY
and for those who want to do it themselves -

Scottish haka.

Lots of Tongans working at DFW airport, their kids playing high school football. If anybody can find more CBS video, the story is great.

Excellent. I think I’ll lay a little Haka on the guys and girl before the Poker game Thursday night.

I think the England team should jump on the haka bandwagon and do this

There’s a team called the “All Blacks”? I feel much better about the name of my Indians now…

heh

Question: Do any Scottish teams actually play in kilts? That’d be rockin’.

When I saw “high school”, I knew who it was before seeing the video.

Right - The Euless Trinity Trojans draw largely from the Tongan families who work at DFW. They’re consistently one of the best teams in the state, fast and strong. 2 years ago, they won the 5A division 1 state championship, which is equal in status to the 5A division 2 state championship, won by Southlake Carroll, who dopers interested in football may remember having played Miami Northwestern in a hugely hyped game at the beginning of this season.

Last year, those 2 teams met early in the playoffs. The game with 2 defending state champs was the 1st game of a triple header at Texas Stadium. The official attendance was 46,339 taken at half-time. However, they filled the stadium, with people bein unable to get into the parking lot due to few gates being open. Unofficial estimates placed the crowd at about 55K. I wish I could have been there, silly Thanksgiving with the family.

They’re the focus of the gatorade ad that has the bus driving past Bill Parcells in a toll booth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urVdmtSSOUM

The All Black name probably comes from the colour of the player’s kit. Apart from a silver fern symbol, it’s … all black.

Scottish sports teams play in shorts.
Now you can see a man in a kilt tossing a caber…

Tongan and New Zealand hakas.

There’s some controversy about BYU teams doing the haka before games.

Thanks for the link - I found several vids of the high school haka:
