For fuck’s sake, no one is going around performing bottom surgery on minors. They’re bitching about something that isn’t happening. But conservatives live in a world where facts don’t matter to them.

HRT can start showing effects pretty quickly, although it’s different from person to person. Changes caused by taking estrogen can be reversed, but changes from testosterone are pretty permanent, which is why hormone blockers are important for trans kids are male-to-female, because they prevent them from developing permanent secondary sexual characteristics that make it harder to pass when they grow up. Blockers are reversible - if the kid decides against transitioning, they can stop taking them, and their normal puberty will run its course.
They aren’t cheap, though, you’re not wrong about that.

And, as a parent of a trans child, I take great umbrage over the “surgically altered for no medical reason.”
Trans kids have really high suicide rates. And psychological health is a medical reason. I now have a functioning healthy son taking 5 AP classes and doing well. Previously I had an eating disorder, poor student, suicidal daughter.
Which one would you prefer?

Questionable right-wing media such as the Washington Examiner and New York Post have been repeating claims by Scott Adams that Dilbert was canceled because the strip has become anti-woke.

That’s not completely true but transphobes tend to gloss right the hell over the most egregious examples. About one in 2500 births results in an intersexed child, many of whom have indeterminate genitals. The parents are given the choice of leaving the kid as is to grow up and make the decision of which genitals will suit the child’s actual expressed gender identity or to pick a sex and have the baby surgically altered to fit their own preferences. So a baby, unable to express any sort of opinion, gets surgery to have their indeterminate physical characteristics changed–because Daddy wants a son or Mommy already has a boy and really wants a little girl. Then the kid grows up, and maybe Daddy and Mommy find out the hard way they chose poorly for this child but too late, the surgery is done.
I would bet five bucks right now that the majority of sex reassignment surgeries on minors are performed by parents on a kid who can’t consent or object, purely to please their own preferences and prejudices. But sure, tell me how it’s only “woke” parents, who are LISTENING to their children and BELIEVING their children and HELPING their children be the most themselves they can be who are the problem.
