Another gift challenge.

An old friend of mine ran off and got married last year and sent us all an announcement after the fact. I haven’t met her husband and haven’t seen her face-to-face for a few years now. We send letters and Christmas cards a few times a year.

Now, I acknowledged the wedding with a letter, but I haven’t gotten around to buying a gift–mainly because I don’t have any great ideas. She couldn’t come to my wedding many years ago, when we were closer (we went to the same high school and college), but she made my wedding dress by hand.

A little background on this person. She is somewhat eccentric. She went to Harvard law and did the corporate thing for a few years, then dropped out to start representing death-row inmates in appeals processes. She is half-Hispanic and I believe her husband is from Mexico. She has always been something of a loner and somewhat neurotic, but very creative.

Any ideas? She has a love for “nice things”–but they have to be a little offbeat.

I can go up to about $150.

How offbeat? For about $15 you can get a mirror-image clock ( I have one on my desk at work. I love it!!) at snapdragongifts.com

OMG!! I wish I had friends like you who would spend that much on me!! I usually spend between $30-50 for wedding gifts!! Guess I’m cheap.

One of the gifts I received that I really liked was a thing to display my cake top. It had an oak base with a clear plastic dome type lid and it had a plaque on it with our names and wedding date. It was pretty cool. I think my sister-in-law found it at a Hallmark gift shop. Other than that I don’t know. I’m horrible at shopping for gifts!! Good luck.

Goodwill thrift shop. Ask for anything in mink…fox…or coon.

Cute idea, sunbear, but she’s already done that. This is a wedding gift, maybe I could get one for her hubby.
