Another "help me name my dog" thread - Japanese names needed

Over a year ago, you marvelous Dopers helped me name my new puppy: Akiko.

Here is a sampling of the divine Miss A.

We unexpectedly lost our Very Good Boy, Kona, this summer. We’ve grieved for a while and it’s time for a new dog. We’ve decided to get a little brother for Akiko.

Like Akiko, Un-named New Puppy is a Japanese Akita Inu. I love his little nosey!

When grown, he will be a red and brown brindle, with some white patches. Something like one of these dogs.

I’m looking for a Japanese name for our new boy. He’s got stripes, or waves, so maybe something like tiger or maple or ?
Your help greatly appreciated.

Well, I already took Okashi Inu for my puppers so the very best name is already taken. Neener neener.

How about Tora-chan–Little Tiger? Or Namiko–Wave Child?

Japanese names… Maru? Pochi?

Rudolph.
Not Japanese. I know. I just like it.

Madara = mottled

Inuyasha.

Especially if he learns to “sit” on command…

Toru (from the classical composer Toru Takemitsu).

Jiro

Jiro was part Akita and we had to leave him behind when we left Japan when I was four. I still clearly remember him trying to jump into the back seat with me when we left for the airport. Something my parents said he never did before. He was left with one our neighbors and whenever someone visited from Japan I’d ask how he was doing until many years later when I was told he passed away.

This is definitely Jiro: https://www.reddit.com/r/wholesomememes/comments/7tnaxg/death_and_the_dog/

If your puppy turns out to be not well behaved, you could call him Kozo, emphasis and long “o” on the second syllable. It means “brat.”

Reiwa.

I like Tora!

These might be too long for call names. Maybe I can use them as “middle names” when he’s in trouble. :stuck_out_tongue:

I will definitely consider this one.

I will use this. In fact, I’m going to start using this on Akiko now.

This is beautiful.

I’m going to have to look them up. I’m not familiar with their work.
Thank you everyone!

What about Kaiju?

It’s generally used for boys, as it happens. Other meanings are “mischievous imp” and “monkey.”

That is an Ichiro if I’ve ever seen one!
