Another "ID this movie" - Cheesy scifi

Long ago (like in the mid 90’s probably) I saw a movie on cable that stared a Bruce Willis type actor (fairly famous, anyway). I think he was a detective or an archaeologist or maybe his partner was…
Anyway, they discovered this huge alien base under a major US city. I think it was abandoned or they aliens were hibernating or something, and I believe the government knew all about it (unless I’m remembering bits from another movie). The only clues I know for sure is a well known actor and the underground aliens.

Anyone?

Are you maybe thinking of Sphere? I only read the book, which had a spaceship buried deep within the ocean, but I thought that might satisfy your “buried aliens” criteria. It premiered in 1998 and stars Dustin Hoffman and Samuel L. Jackson.

“Predator 2” had an alien ship hiding beneath L.A. Danny Glover doesn’t look like Bruce Willis, though…

That was the first one I thought of too.

Not Sphere, although that movie was cheesy. Not P2.
Yeah, definitely took place underground… Definitely*. It might have been a straight-to-cable thing. Probably early to mid 90’s.

*my only Hoffman impression

Could it be Charlie Sheen in The Arrival? It has a huge alien base that is underground, but I don’t remember whether it is under a city.

Damn you beat me to it. That was going to be my suggestion as well. Satisfies the underground aliens part and sort of satisfies the bruce willis-type actor part.

The Arrival starring Charlie Sheen

Damn it.

Sweet! I’ll check it out. Thanks

Could it be Carpenter’s They Live? It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it.

Wasn’t there a TV movie based on a Stephen King story that involved underground aliens?

Of course, in the underground alien genre, nobody has bested the original “Invaders from Mars”.

Tommyknockers, but that was set in rural New England, not a big city.

Besides it was only a spaceship not a base.

The IMDB page for The Arrival isn’t very helpful, but I’m going to track it down as that’s the best lead I’ve had. Also going to find They Live, just because it sounds pretty cool.

I’m starting to suspect that I didn’t see the whole movie, just the end. So if Sheen only finds the underground base thingy in the last 45 minutes, this might be the one.

Thanks again

No, in that one the aliens aren’t under us, they’re all around us (that’s not a spoiler BTW).

Decent film, fits the review that the concept is better than the execution, but its still not bad at all.

Its Wikipedia page has the entire plot.
