Another Mass Shooting (San Bernardino)

AFAIK the reports are that they suspected that some bags had bombs, but so far on the footage I saw there were no bombs launched at police, just gun fire. It may had been terrorism, but we should not forget that “going postal” was a thing in the 80s and 90s.

One thing to note too, I do remember the Saeed name appearing a lot on the Indian subcontinent.

When I google this name, the second link is from a website called the Muslim Issue. It claims that the suspects are three “Middle Eastern” males. They have already started out wrong if it turns out that one of the people involved was a woman. It definitely looks to me like a Muslim hate site. The first link was from the Free Republic. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess the “media” reporting this information will turn out to be incorrect.

Multiple reputable news sources are confirming that name.

Also, his father is apparently saying that he is a very religious Muslim.

Apparently he was a county health inspector, which might have led to some sort of workplace connection.

I really wish that the police would make more effort to capture the perpetrators of attacks like this alive. And no, I don’t just mean so that they can live to stand trial in a court of law, though that would be nice, too. If we’re going to actually do anything about attacks like this, then we have to understand the motives and mentalities behind them, and that means studying the perpetrators. We can’t do that when they’re dead.

Yeah, but it would really be a lot more dangerous for the cops. It’s not like these people have demonstrated any qualms about killing folks. I know I wouldn’t risk my life to better understand them. I doubt that we could do much to change anything even if we understood motives better. We don’t exactly have a great grasp of how to fix mental health issues.

It’s very early but it looks similar to the Boston bombers – two Muslim brothers pull off a terrorist attack. The twist is that this one didn’t target random victims. A workplace grievance was part of the motivation.

If the lives at risk are just police lives, they often do go to great lengths to capture rather than kill. But when the public at large is at risk to any degree all bets are off. And I’m not sure I would want it any other way even if we were sure we could learn something from having the suspects alive. Besides, often we can learn something from what they leave behind (writings and other details of their lives) so its not like its a total loss.

CNN reporting he is an American citizen and at least one of the guns used was legally purchased.

Workplace grievance. I wonder what the details of that are?

The authorities are being very responsible, waiting for the investigation to proceed, not saying anything they aren’t certain of. It’s driving me crazy!

Makes me wonder what kind of person has friends that would join him in a mass shooting on a moment’s notice. Imagine a conversation something like this:

“Hey George, I’m stepping out to shoot up those jerks who fired me last week! Wanna come with?”
“Well, I was planning to go on a WoW raid tonight, but what the hell, sure.”

Friends help you hide the bodies.
Good friends help you create them.

Loyal. Loyal to a fault.

Phew! I was worried this was an illegal shooting.

Awesomeness…

I always keep some camo, masks, bullet-proof vests, assault weapons and maybe some home-made explosives in case I have a work place grievance. I’m American!

The LA Times reporters mention that the killers had ‘long guns’.
What the hell are long guns? Rifles? Shotguns? Plasma weapons?

Long guns.
