My wife and I have been married for about six years now and 99.999% of the time, we will discuss purchases that could have an impact on the household. Today I am informed that my son (stepson, actually) is bringing home a rabbit. Oh, yeah, she forget to discuss it with me first! I would have vetoed the rabbit, IF I had been given the chance. Why? I truly don’t believe it will get the care it needs. I think my son will tire of it quickly and it will have to suffer the consequences. Of course, my wife didn’t seem to take this into consideration.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate rabbits. I just don’t want to be responsible IN ANY WAY for it or any other living creature that isn’t a related human. The kids’ grandparents gave them cats about 5 years ago (without OUR permission) and they’ve been a royal pain. My son NEVER plays with his cat (there’s two, BTW) and now that cat is a bit, uh, crazy and won’t go anywhere near my son, me, or my wife. She only responds to my (step-)daughter who handles the feeding and cleaning up after of said cats.
With any luck, we’ll convince my son to take the rabbit back to the grandparents to live. After all, they live in the country with lots of fresh air and room. We live in the city. My son has school and lots of after school activities to keep him occupied and having a pet just isn’t going to work.
Needless to say, I’m pissed, but what can I do now?
