Good old Ajax. He’s had seventeen mostly happy, healthy years after a bad start. He showed up one day at the front door and wandered in to the kitchen to be fed, a scrawny little black and white cat who fliched at every sound and hid from everyone but us.
He’s followed us from California to Arizona to Iowa to Missouri and back to Iowa. Never asked for much other than food, a warm place to sleep, and an occasional head scratching. Never got sick, other than one abcess and a couple bad teeth over the years.
Vet confirmed today he has a large inoperable tumor in his abdomen. He’s not in any pain and still goes after food and attention, so we are giving him steriods to see if they will shrink the tumor and make him comfortable for his last few weeks. It’s good to have the extra time, but we’re just keeping an eye to see when we need to take him in and say goodbye.
He’s in a patch of sunlight catching some warm right now. Hope his last dreams are good ones.
Ah, Mrs. Cake, that just sucks. I hope he is content and comfortable as he can be until the time comes. If you have some pics of the dear boy, please post.
I’m sure he will know nothing but love and warmth until the end. That’s the great thing about pets. When they are happy, they are happy, and I’m sure he will be happy for as long as he is here with you.
We lost our dear Kaska last September, and although it pained me to know what was happening, he was content until the end. That kept me going.
i went through this last january. i made her last appointment and spoiled her for a week. she had all the fancy feast she wanted. and she wanted cases of it. by wednesday she was started to slow down on the food. by friday (the day for her house call) she was down to one can.
spoil him while you can and enjoy the time you have with him.
