Another researcher migrating North?

The whining continues!

For the uninitiated: The head of the department I work for is leaving for a job with the University of Alberta in Canada. The dismantling of his lab has been an absolute C.F., there is a lack of leadership and a huge power vacuum. My boss is a research collaborator of the departing DH, so our lab has been hit with a lot of this crap.

Dr. Boss went to Edmonton last week to talk to the U of A. They made a good case for him to move: a good facility, competitive pay, and one of the researchers he admires is on their staff.

I didn’t think that the DH would move his wife and four home-schooled teenagers to the Great White North, and I was wrong. Will Dr. Boss move his wife and four kids beyond the 54th parallel? Stay tuned . . .

Slight nitpick: Edmonton (home of the U of A) is actually at 53 degrees, 34 minutes north (cite). Not quite the 54th parallel, but close.

But this new development begs the question: with your department falling apart and important people moving to the U of A, Mouse_Maven, will you also be considering a move at some point?

Wow! Thanks for the link.

I won’t be moving. I’m very close to finishing my BS degree at the local center of higher excruciation: 4 more classes and 2 labs. Also, the Mouse_Spouse has a well established career here that pays better than my rodent ranching.
