ANOTHER Robin Hood movie???

That was awesome! …I mean, it has nothing to do with Robin Hood the legend, but if we replace the Sheriff of Nottingham with Leonardo DaVinci…

Seriously, where’s the forest in these previews? Why is 12th-century England depicted with Gotham City-style cyclopean architecture? Why is everyone wearing pants?

For a complete destruction of the Trailer, nothing beats this video.

He still miscast himself, though. OTOH, Adam Morris playing Robin as an obtuse, narcissistic fop was pitch perfect.

Also, holy shit I had no idea Baldrick was in a John Wayne movie! He even got a scene with John Wayne.

Well as I’ve posted before, id love to see a robin hood where he’s simply the bad guy.

After all, he’s on questionable grounds ethically – do all the rich deserve to be robbed, is it good for the local economy for that to happen, and what proportion is to sustain him and his merry men?

He can start out as a populist figure until the locals realize he’s ultimately harmful. Then you have a reverse john wick where legions of ordinary folk must bravely take on a l33t archer.

From what I understand, there were plans for a movie called “Nottingham” that told the story from the Sheriff’s point of view and portrayed Robin as not quite the hero that the legends painted him as. That ended up morphing into the 2010 Robin Hood, which from what I heard was rather dreary and joyless.

But for a similar take, check out Mari Ness’ excellent short story In The Greenwood on Tor.com.

Hmm. 46 replies so far.

Thanks for the posts, folks. Whether you agree with my OP or not. Your comments have been interesting and I’ve enjoyed them all.

He mentioned this in an interview a year or so ago. He was struggling for acting work at the time and had a normal job as a motorbike courier. He went to the interview in his gear and the director was impressed with what he thought was his commitment to the part!

It’s an even better scene if you assume that his character actually is the whichever descendant of Baldrick.

I think I’ll skip this one. Explosions, automatic crossbows, modern clothing, etc. seem like the wrong way to go. The sheriff of Nottingham in particular looks like he stepped out of the latest issue of GQ. I think this one will flop. If they are going to make a modern version of an old tale, at least set it in the modern era. The Kid Who Would Be King, for example, seems like it’ll be a better version of King Arthur than this movie will be of Robin Hood.

Why the hell is the world’s most famous longbowman using a recurve bow?

For some reason, that’s the thing that bugs me the most.

I Shoveled Kong’s Shit

They should make a Robin Hood movie where everyone keeps getting shot in the ass with arrows. It would end with the Sheriff of Nottingham hog-tied and with a bulls-eye painted on his rump, and Robin Hood saying he’s going to shoot some butts. We would then see an arrow’s view flying toward the sheriff before the screen switches to saying “The End”.

Thanks – that was a good story!

The bow training “expert” is a bit of a controversial figure.

Am I the only one who thought this version of Robin Hood was set in a post-apocalyptic reverted-to-feudalism England when I saw the trailer?

Yep. But that’s not going to stop me from watching it through that filter anyway.

actually I thought it was a new assassins creed movie when I seen the commercial ……

The clothing, architecture and other features certainly seem to have zero historical faithfulness.

ETA: now that I think of it, a post-apocalyptic inspired-by-Robin Hood movie would actually be better.

Crazy-ass anachronisms didn’t hurt Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, but Robin Hood’s lead actor is generating too many megasmarms for my taste.

A Knight’s Tale was another movie that had anachronisms (mostly in the songs and dancing) but it worked.
