I just finished a nice New Years’ video on the home computer by combining an .avi-file from the digital camera with subtitles put on via Windows Movie Maker, but I’d wish to convert the finished file from wmm to .mov or .avi so that I can share it with others. Any suggestions?
Windows movie maker can save into various formats natively. I believe it’s all under the File menu.
I think it can, but only without alterations. If you add effects, the effects are put on as a layer to the movie, they are not “burned” into it.
I can answer your question better if I knew what exactly you were trying to accomplish.
If you’re trying to figure out how to share your .mswmm project with another person via email, then you need to export the project as a final movie (Movie Maker supports .wmv and .avi output). There are options under File->Save Movie File to automatically create appropriately sized .wmv files for email.
If you’re trying to figure out how to convert a .wmv video to another format (.avi or .mov) then you’ll need to use a seperate program to do this conversion.
Movie Maker can do DV-AVI .avi files though, which are good for retaining quality, but are large files and not suitable for emailing or posting on webpages, if your video is of any length. To do so:
File->Save Movie File
Select My Computer, press Next.
Give your output file a name.
Select “Show more choices”
Select “Other settings”
All options on this list will result in a .wmv file output of your edited video, effects and all (“burned in” as you say). The only exception is DV-AVI, which will output an .avi file using the DV codec (effects and all, as well).
A DV-AVI file should be readable by just about every other video playback/editing program.
Note that when you select DV-AVI, your resulting video will be sized to 720x480 @ 30fps. It also will be a pretty large video, and probably not suitable for emailing/etc.
Thank you so much for the informative reply!
