answers.com

Has anyone here tried answers.com? They have a free download that allows you to point and click on ANY word while you are using ANY application on your PC and their system will immediately lookup the word and give you a ton of great information. Their tool works with IE, MAC and Firefox.

This is the greatest innovation on the web I have seen in a long, long time.

I’m highly suspicious of spyware. Have you run AdAware after installing it to see if anything comes up?

I haven’t tried the alt-click thing (ISTR several failed attempts at this technology over the years), but I love the site. Even for just going through Wikipedia without the ridiculous load times.

It was through answers.com that I learned about the word cromulent.

Here’s their privacy policy:

http://www.gurunet.com/privacy.jsp

"Answers.com is not spyware; we do not run any background processes that report back to us information about your software or hardware configuration, or your web browsing or purchasing habits. "

So is this Gurunet under a new name? I used to use Gurunet all the time, but then it became not free, as I recall. Is it free again? Anyway, it was a great tool. Now, I use “Quick Search Bookmarks” in Firefox for such things… but still.

Yeah I think Gurunet bought out answers.com. It’s all free.

Just want to make sure everyone takes a look at this dandy service.
