Anthony Bourdain takes Alton Brown to a strip club

Anybody else catch Bourdain’s show, The Layover in Atlanta? Alton Brown takes him to a couple of high end restaurants, then Bourdain takes Brown to a strip club featuring older performers. It was hilarious. Bourdain is knocking back shots out of plastic dixie cups, while Alton sort of waves his PBR at him without trying to keep up. Alton says something about “making it rain” and quips that one of the dancers looks like his grandma.

Priceless.

I loves me some No Reservations. Plays hell on my diet, but what the hell.

I’ve been a fan of both forever, and it was fun to see them together - but damn the new (skinny, bowtied) Alton just seems to be a different guy than he was back in the day.

I like Alton Brown because he explains the science behind cuisine. Bourdain is just a pretentious asshole, and as far as I’m concerned he can DIAF.

I dunno. I agree from what I’ve read of his, that Bourdain is sometimes jerkish, but I can’t say he comes off as pretentious. At least, that’s my impression of him.

So, what’s DIAF? Die in a fire? That’s a little harsh.

yes, DIAF=die in a fire. and Bourdain is enough of an asshole where I wouldn’t care if he dies in a fire.

I’m not surprised Alton would be a little uncomfortable. Isn’t he a conservative Christian?

Gotta catch this show, sounds hilarious. I think of Bourdain as a bit churlish sometimes, but could totally party down with that guy. I recently watched some excerpts from an interview between Bourdain and Neil Degrasse Tyson on StarTalk, and while Bourdain was clearly talking out of his ass, it was a fun interview since I like them both.

I haven’t seen it - but please tell me it’s the Claremont Lounge.

It definitely is! And that is as awesome as you are currently thinking it is.

What makes you think he’s he an asshole? I find him damned likable and would love to pound some drinks with him some time. He’s blunt but any meanness on his part seems more rascally than truly assholish.

Actually I’ve heard, as much as I love him, that Alton’s the one who is difficult to work with.

Alton lives about 5 miles from me and goes to a very conservative church that espouses the notion that gay people can be cured. He’s a “born again” Christian. The fact that he and Anthony Bourdain are close friends is intriguing.

Are they? I’ve never read that. I assumed that Alton being on the Layover was simply because he’s a Food TV Personality who happens to live in Atlanta.

Is his attendance at that church fairly recent, or are they OK with alcohol? There are at least 5 or 6 alcohol-based episodes of Good Eats, with at least 3 that are nothing but various mixed drinks.

Oh, dear. Note to self: Must DVR this if it is rebroadcast!

There was an episode that aired on a later season of Good Eats right after Alton lost so much weight that was very, very, very negative about alcohol. At the time, I thought it had something to do with his diet (which was also discussed on the show). I loved Good Eats, don’t get me wrong…but Alton seemed to develop a bit of an edge after the weight loss. :frowning:

He’s not openly gay?

I agree with you, but the fire might object…

He’s been married for years*; his wife DeAnna was co-executive producer of Good Eats, and appeared on the tenth anniversary episode. So, take that for what it’s worth.

  • His Wikipedia entry doesn’t indicate when they got married, but they had a daughter together in 1999.
