Anthony Hopkins will be Odin in Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Marvel’s Thor

Apparently the movie is progressing.

Anthony Hopkins is currently in negotiations to appear in Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Marvel’s Thor

They’re not going to have Vincent d’Onofrio as Thor? I’m disappointed.

If the announcement was Hopkins as Odin in a movie version of RING OF THE NIBELUNG, I’d be ecstatic!

Actually, I guess it would be Wotan, to be accurate.

He’s tall but he’s pudgy, double chinned and a graying 40 something.Would he really be the best choice?

He is the only Thor there will ever be.

Actually, I think Brian Blessed would make a better Odin.

I’m not sure he can grow a beard worthy of that name. I mean, he looks like old Charles Manson.

That is my exact sentiment.

“HAWKMEN! DIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!”

The only actor who should have been cast as Thor is Alexander Skaarsgaard. That they were too stupid to cast him tells me all that I need to know about this film.

Chris Hemsworth was the best thing about the new Star Trek movie (which I rather liked, overall, but he was still the best). So I’ll probably be seeing this movie. Tony Hopkins is another plus, but I think that Natalie Portman probably cancels that out.

Wonder if it’ll have Kirby dots?

“Oh well, who wants to live forever?”

I agree. I adore Brian Blessed. Remember his as Augustus Caesar in “I, Claudius”?

Chris Hemsworth seems kinda small to play Thor. I could seem him doing Dr. Blake, maybe…but when he bangs the stick on the ground, he needs to transform into a ripped out 'roid monkey…like, say, Triple H of WWE fame.

I think Hopkins is a fantastic choice. Odin is pretty close to Hannibal the Cannibal-creepiness in many aspects. I mean, this is the guy who mutilates and sacrifices himself to get access to magic and wisdom. If there was someone you didn’t want to piss off, it was the All-father, for he would come after your soul. On a frackin’ eight-legged horse.

What about Erik Allen Kramer?

No way. I love the guy too, but he’s no Odin. Heimdall maybe, but Hopkins is certanly the best choice for the SkyFather, hands down.

Yeah, Brian Blessed is all wrong for Oðin. Oðin isn’t a brassy blustering guy. He’s gloomy and poetic. He’s a wanderer, a trickster, a blood-brother to Loki.

No kidding. I Watch Stuff reported that he was being courted for the role back in March and he would have been an excellent choice. I’m not interested in seeing the movie with someone else playing Thor.

You liked the new Star Trek movie and the thing you liked best was the guy who died in the first five minutes?

It was the best performance, so… yes?
