This story at MSNBC.com reports of a seven-month-old child, the child of an ABC employee, who has contracted anthrax. A confirmed case of cutaneous anthrax, not just exposure.
This really honks me. It took the doctors awhile to figure out it was anthrax, because hey, who’d have thought a baby would get it? I’m not pissed at the doctors.
I am TOTALLY pissed at the rat bastards who are doing this. I don’t claim to know whether any of these cases are related or not. I don’t know if it’s act-of-war-bioterrorism or just some opportunistic fucking nutjob who may be taking advantage of our national paranoia. All I know is that now a baby has it.
As an human, I’m hostile. As the parent of two small children…I can’t even say what I’d do if ever got my hands on that motherfucker. Words cannot adequately express my pure, unadulterated rage.
Personally I’d have to start by boiling some pig fat and kosher salt in a deep fryer, then injecting said substance, a drop or two at a time, into every single pore of the filthy cum-guzzling useless piece of shit. I mean, just to bring the skin to a point of really virulent nastiness. Then scrape the skin off, deep fried from the inside out as it was, and force feed it to the self righteous my-god’s better than you’re god sphincter boil, until they have been fouled in every conceivable way, then hire some big-dicked ex-con to wear a razorblade studded condom and sodomize the black hole of pustulence until there were no nerve endings to cause pain unto.
Then, I’d start the whoopie machine.
But that’s just me.

[sub]I’ll save some of the really good bits for you, Persphone. Bet you have a few good ideas up your sleeve as well.[/sub]
I have zero tolerance when it comes to harming children. I felt that sooner or later some child would become an anthrax victim. But I didn’t think it would be such a young child. I want to curse and rant, but I’m too tired. While driving today I choked up when I visualized what must have happened on those jets with the hijackers. So brutal. And now to hear about this child…
After the initial attack on September 11th, I went temporarily insane and fell in with the “BOMB THEM ALL RIGHT NOW!!” crowd. After a little while, I settled down, into my normal centrist self, but with a few slightly more hawkish ideas.
Now someone is fucking with our collective heads. bin Laden? A psychopathic media-hating Jennifer Lopez fan? Who knows? But someone is playing with the mind of an entire nation. That is just so vile.
There’s always a small risk associated with air travel (hell, with any form of travel). Granted, if one dies in a plane crash, it’s not usually because the plane has been deliberately flown in to a building, but the risk of the plane crashing is always there. But mail? Jesus-effing-Christ! Not everyone travels in airplanes. Some people never travel in planes. But dammit, everyone in this country has gotten mail at some point in their lives! My children get mail!
Honestly, I’m not too worried about being targeted. Whoever is doing this is quite obviously looking for some bigger fish. But I’m still really fucking pissed.
I know, Persephone. I’ve been away from the TV and news lately. But tonight I had Nightline on, and when I heard an INFANT got Anthrax I got deeply, deeply, deeply pissed. I now hear he is responding to medication and will probably be okay, but this awakened a rage in me I haven’t felt since Sept. 11th. Not that I don’t think 6,000 other lives aren’t valuable (some of which, I know, were children). There is just something about a little kid getting this that makes me FURIOUS.
What really gets me, on a completely different level, is that we don’t even know that this is some “terrorist” effort. It could just be some cranky nutso dumbfuck somewhere (or a whole bunch of wacked-out dumbfucks) doing this. For some reason, that’s even sadder and more fucked-up to me.
You ever notice that when you’re driving a long distance, you get time to think?
I’m driving up to play hockey tonight (about an hour’s drive to the arena). And “it” just sort of struck me.
While they aren’t doing a particularly good job of it, there are people that are trying to kill us all. These anthrax letters are turning up all over the place.
They want to tear down America. It’s unprecedented (at least for the last 200 years or so).
“Even worse to know fuckers like you are off playing Canadian sports. Ever heard of basketball or lacrosse, Milo? Where is your goddamn patriotism.”
BRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTT!
Sorry Cranky, you lose! Do you know what Canada’s official national sport is? Huh?
And God knows how many cases of people freaking out over nothing. There was one case of a guy who was arrested and forcibly “decontaminated” because someone saw him with confetti. In my opinion, all you people who are spazzing out and acting like hate-filled, paranoid yahoos ought to get certificates declaring you to be honorary members of Al Qaeda, because you’re doing more damage to this country than all the terrorists in the world ever could.
This all sucks a great deal no matter who is doing it. But I’d just like to weigh in and say I absolutely do not believe that whomever is responsible is in any way connected to Al Queda (or however its spelled) or Osama. I think this is some random nut who saw an opportunity and went for it.
We may never know, but that’s my take. This just doesn’t smell like an Osama move. Not flashy enough, not enough people hurt.
Stoid, this could not have been just a random nut because it is not something that you think of after September 11 and go out and do by September 18. It takes sophisticated equipment and lots more planning.
You may be right about it not being flashy enough for Osama, but how about Saddam? Remember, Mr. Atta was seen twice meeting with Iraqi agents.
Really? What kinds of “sophisticated equipment and…planning”? Do you have some actual knowledge of the subject, or are you just talking out of your ass? Having read a little (very little, I admit) on the subject, I think it more likely that this is rather un-planned and not thought out very well. Readily available information seems to bear this out, such as this article at MSNBC
If it is, in fact, a planned assault, this plan must be considered an abject failure by its designers. Twelve exposures in a population of 380,000,000(?) does not an epidemic make. Furthermore, if the above quote is accurate, it has the slimmest of chances of becoming an epidemic.
The only way it can be considered a success is if the goal was to inspire fear in the population. Judging from the demand for gas-masks, I’d say they were successful in that.
They’ve succeded in intimidating a lot of people, but it seems unlikely that the US government will grant any of their demands (whatever they are are).
I’m not sure I understand you, aegypt. The word I used was “fear”, which is defined as
As in “To expect with alarm that I will receive a package containing Anthrax in the mail.”
Or “To be afraid of airplanes travelling overhead, due to the possibility of airborne contaminants, thus making gas-masks a necessary accessory to my wardrobe.”
Or were you just using me as a springboard for your own thoughts?
I was. Sorry if I wasn’t clear enough. Actually, I couldn’t agree more with the point you were making.
What I meant to say was that terrorism is supposed to work the following way.
Step 1:
Do something that scares the living daylights out of a civilian population. I must say they managed to do this much at least.
Am I scared of going up a skyscraper? Check.
Nervous when flying? Check.
Jittery when opening mail? Check again.
But I am quite sure nobody would take the trouble of blowing themselves up just for the Schadenfreude of making millions of people around the world afraid. Presumably there’s a political agenda somewhere.
Step 2:
Jittery population pressures politicians to submit to terrorists’ demands. Would work best in a country with a politically weak government.
I don’t see step 2 happening now. But it has happened many times before around the world in the past century, so I the line of thinking isn’t hard to follow.
Uh, Bob, perhaps you might try a little reading comprehension. Maybe then you’d realise that I was making a specific comment, to a confirmed case of anthrax, in regards to someone inflicting anthrax upon a child. I was in no way reacting to “suspicions” or “Paranoia”. I was reacting to a worthless excuse for a human being, a lowlife who has forfeited his right to live. And while I may be a Yahoo, I am most certainly not a member of Al Qaeda, honorary or otherwise, and my feelings about anyone who commits an act of harm upon a child do not change with the nationality or creed of the wrongdoer. They are scum and deserve to die in a painful and horrible manner.
Cite, please, where I’m “doing more damage to this country than all the terrorists in the world ever could.” by standing by my unshakable convictions that people who harm children are scum? Oh, it’s just some rhetoric you decided to spout? I see.
I think everyone needs to calm down here. There have obviously been anthrax attacks against innocent people. be they four or four hundred, be they children or adults. I don’t see the point in getting hyperactive over numbers or ages.
To the OP, the baby will be fine, as it is being treated with antibiotics. We are all obviously outraged no matter what the age of the victims or the number of victims… we’ve all had enough. We’re all resolved to fight this and find the slimeballs responsible for this. And the horrifying thing is that these anthrax casualties are in ADDITION to the 5000 Innocent souls lost in washington d.c. and New York.
As far as the anthrax victims go, my heart goes out to the man in florida who actually died from this new attack. My prayers are with the others now being treated. we’re all in this together, guys.
