oarentaladvisory, there’s no point in my trying to deal with your willful ignorance. I will, however, continue to point it out to others when you are spreading misinformation.
Bitch.
I’ll do the same.
I just wanted to say I find it interesting how little overlap in posters there is between this thread and the Banning Smoking in Bars and Nightclubs" thread in GD. (Almost none.)
Count me as one kvetchy asthmatic whose asthma has gotten worse, not better, with the passage into adulthood. I’ve never smoked, tobacco or otherwise, not even once, but even walking through a group of smokers outside my office building can set off an asthma attack.
Oh, and in addition to lung cancer, let’s not forget the large positive correlation between exposure to cigarette smoke and other cancers. Like cervical cancer, of which I am also a survvivor.

Did you not read the links posted by beagledave you twit-mouse?
They’re cites from TOBACO companies.
but go on, smoke away. Continue to delude yourself.
Oh - and here you go:

CNN.com - Tobacco executive tells court that smoking causes cancer - June 15, 2000
there you go, asshole.
I may be a bitch, but at least I’m a bitch with cites.
This is funny. It’s like the company software that everyone put so much time and money into. And nobody wants to admit that the software sucks. Kinda like the anti-smoking propagandists and smoking. They put so much effort into it that they can never go back.
Ok PA, keep telling yourself that.
And when you develop lung cancer, and it metastisizes into your bones, liver and brain, and the morphene makes you constipated, and you have to have your shit manually removed from your asshole, I guess we’ll both know who was right.
Happy puffing.
now why is it that I don’t believe you actually even clicked on all those cites, (let alone read them)?
it doesn’t do your position any good when you obviously don’t even read what the other side puts out. But since you’ve got your mind made up, it probably doesn’t matter.
If I get cancer, it won’t be because I smoke. What is this, some kinda joke. Because I already told you, I don’t smoke.
Oh hey - maybe it will be oral cancer instead
Fun!
(N.B. the link has pictures of oral cancer - surprise surprise - don’t click if you’re squimish)
Ewww, yikes! Watch out! 'Cuz you might get it from smoking pole too.
Wring, Don’t forget, your mind is made up too. We both lose.
BTW - chew causes oral cancer. As do cigars. And pipes.
And really, PA - if you don’t have the habit, why on earth would you try to convince people that do that it’s not damaging to their health?
Are you really that ignorant? Really?
Really? and you know this, how?? my only post in this thread was to note that you ‘answered’ alice in two minutes, which didn’t give you any time to even look at the long list of cites she submitted.
My point to you is that if you fail to even bother to look at the other sides evidence, it makes you a very poor debater of points. But I also noted that obviously that doesn’t bother you.
alice I wouldn’t bother with this little one, if I were you. it’s one thing to argue the point, or attempt to disuade someone with evidence, but for some one to proudly claim that their position is based on their opinion, w/o examination of facts, and assume that all others make up their minds the same way, well, remember the pig enjoys the mud.
Why is this a debate? Yes, I’m a light smoker; I do so only outside or in my car (alone).
Tobacco and alcohol are highly addictive drugs, and LEGAL in the U.S. And, as I recall, obesity just pulled ahead of cancer in the contest for #1 cause of deaths. Of course, it would be unspeakable for me to ask the person at the next table to stop eating their 6,000 meal.
Cigarette smoke and cigar smoke smells horrible. Segregate non-smokers and smokers, install proper ventillation systems. And then just let it go.
Sorry wring - no can do. There are young people who read this board who may be deciding whether smoking is the right choice for them. One of them could read PA’s bullshit and decide to take up the habit based on his total and utter tripe.
This is a board dedicated to fighting ignorance - If PA has completely deluded opinions on the subject of smoking, fine - but he better either keep them to himself, or shut the fuck up.
Basically PA, put up or shut up, asshole.
And while your at it, I would also like some info on how HIV DOESN’T cause AIDS, bears DON’T shit in the woods, and the Pope ISN’T Catholic.
Get back to me.

I understand the invisible audience, but little PA isn’t putting up evidence, they’re posting statements, and saying 'it’s my opinion and just as valid as yours, (unspoken part - even though yours have been made after examination of tons of evidence such as this and this and this and this, and I haven’t bothered reading anything about it). It’s no contest.
Blonde can’t imagine why you’d toss in stuff about obesity, cancer, eating etc into a discussion about smoking. Some one else’s eating doesnt’ effect others sitting nearby. Smoking does.
The Golden Age for smokers is obviously over. Done. Gone.
Smokers should accept that others don’t want to breathe the poison coming from our mouth’s and cigarettes.
It is really that simple.
We have no right to inflict the side-effects of our bad habit on unwilling others.
I wish this applied to all aspects of public life. I wish I didn’t have to suffer that horrible woman (landlord) with her hideous perfume. I wish I didn’t have to dodge dogshit on the sidewalks. I wish I didn’t have to have a daily minor heart attack caused my the bad driving habits of morons.
Do you feel like I do?
Then do your part. You can’t change other people. But you can acknowledge that nearly all non-smokers don’t want to breathe our smoke.
So don’t do it. Smoke in your own space.
Easily done, not a problem. I am 100% in favor of that concept, and it wouldn’t bother me in the least if all restaurants/bars were smoke-free. My point was that smoking IS still allowed in many areas. And I bring up obesity because eating too much food is a vice and addiction that can lead to early death. Sort of like tobacco or alcohol.
And – if there’s “young people” reading this who may be encouraged to smoke — shouldn’t they NOT be reading the obscene language and adult content of this board? Give me a break.
Blonde - do you smoke crack as well as cigarettes?
The word “fuck” while mildly titilating, and perhaps even addictive to say, just isn’t going to cause a whole host of health malidies that smoking will. Period.
And, to point out the obvious, if Joe Boozehound Fat-Guy sits in the corner and eats a 17,000 calorie meal washed down with a 26 of JD, that doesn’t affect MY health at all.
If, OTOH, Susy Black-Lung puffs away in the corner, it DOES affect my health - quite a bit actually, as I’m an asthmatic. I assume as a smoker, you are not an asthmatic. Trust me - it sucks, and while I appreciate that you probably can’t imagine what it’s like to feel like you’re going to suffocate, I can. I’ve felt it numerous times - often because of people smoking - WHERE THEY’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO. You know, like the entrance to the HOSPITAL I work at. You don’t do this? Great. But hosts of smokers do.
Sorry, but your nasty habit affects people around you in a direct way. Alcoholism and over-eating do not. Period.
