anti-spanking article? where? No, not that.

Hello everyone. Usually I just lurk, but I’m in search of a specific article I was assigned to read in college, and of course I thought of the straight dope geniuses… I thought I had a copy around somewhere, but now I can’t find it, and a friend has been pestering me about it and wants to read it herself instead of hearing me blab on an on about how great it was. Wonder why.

Anyway, it’s about spanking your kids. And how it’s bad. Umm, lessee, what can I remember… I seem to recall that it outlines a list of reasons why adults should not spank their children, two of which are:

  1. Spanking teaches children that physical violence, at certain times, is just justified

  2. Spanking gives kids the idea that physical violence can sometimes mean “I love you.”

uhhh, but that’s all I can remember. This is not meant to spark any sort of debate, though-- I just want to find the article. Anybody know where I can get it? Unfortunately, I don’t remember where the article was published-- I do know that it was several pages long (i.e., it wasn’t a Newsweek article). Also, I don’t know if this helps but the class I took in which I read the article was a legal sort of class, a sort of pre-law course.

Please help! And thanks in advance!
