AntiPro- I've got a free ISP you might like better than NetZero-No Ad bar

AntiPro-

(Sorry to track you down this way, I feel like I’m shouting into the wind, but I figured you might never return to the Is It Slow Running Today thread.)

If you’re having trouble with NetZero nagging to click on ads, you might want to switch to this:
Freewwweb has NO AD BAR.

Isn’t that great for a free ISP? They just start you at their portal, but one click and you’re anywhere you want to start.

USE THIS LINK if you already have a recent browser, to save them downloading you a copy of Netscape.

I use that too… it works OK.

The setup was rocky, because their customer service sucks ass, but what can you expect from a free ISP?

But it is free… What I am wondering is this: Can they tell if you set their site as your browser startup page or not? I’ve signed on Freewwweb and logged onto AIM without opening a browser with no problem.

I’ve been using freewwweb for the past 5 months now, and have a love/hate relationship with it. I love it because its free, yet hate it because it seems like their servers are always down, and can’t sign half of the time.

and yes, their tech support sucks smelly ass

Ahhhh…DSL…speed-ilicous

I’ve been quite happy with WorldSpy.com

It’s free and it’s reliable. Been around a long time, and has a good dozen non-toll numbers in cities around me.

Oh, and it’s also ** NO AD BAR **.

** FONZ!! ** You are just too  for words!!!

I did go back to the ‘running slow thread’ when I saw Jim had reposted, and I wondered what he had said. Now, I not only have the banners to contend with, there is a big black square that resembles a tv in the middle of my screen! ** NTM ** told me about moving them around, and you can DO that, but that black square is a real munster!

Boy, what a surprise to see that thread line though!!

I will soon be freer than I was ‘free’!! Thanks!!!

I like WorldSpy, too.

The advantange of so many numbers is that you can bypass a busy signal and dial the next machine when one machine goes down, but that’s only happened to me twice in 6 months.

I set up a shortcut to my main portal (my.yahoo.com) with “File/Send Shortcut to Desktop”, and put it (dragged) to the launch bar.
So I don’t even see their portal page when I log on(which isn’t bad, just rearranged from what I’m used to).

What else is left not to like?
Free, no floating ad bar, no need to use their portal. It’s all there.

What black square?

If you mean the phone# select screen, it goes away (goes behind) when the main browser window comes up.
Maybe you don’t have multiple windows enabled in your browser.

You might try WorldSpy, I’ve used that too, and it has a little different start-up technique.

Sorry it didn’t work right away. :frowning:

** Fonz, ** I was referring to the NetZero black square tv dealie thing. It appeared for the first time yesterday, running an SUV commercial in it, well, it does resemble a tv after all. But, today, it won’t go away. I have to move it to see whatever part of the screen it blocks. I’ve tried to fool it by shoving it to the bottom, but it is smarter than your average black square and pops right back up!

I’m trying your link when I get offline tonight. Fingers crossed that I don’t blow any fuses!! Thanks again!

(boost for  )

How about free dsl? Yep, freedsl.com I never went back to check but they did write me.

I want to change to one of these folks but how big is their download. I want to put the thing on a floppy (yes I know, I am saving for a zip, honest!) so if the computer crashes spectacularly, I can reinstall it without having to redownload.

What’s this Free DSL everyone is crowing about?

ok. FreeDSL is out there, and it’s really free except for the banner bar, but that’s small too, all you pay for is the modem, but what’s the deal with getting the line to your home?
they don’t mention anything about it on their site.
anyone try this yet? i’m thinking of switching over from my DSL if it’s for real.
