Anton Yelchin dead at 27

The actor who played Chekov in the latest three Star Trek movies has died in a car crash according to Yahoo Movies.

That is horrible news! My sympathies to his friends and family. :frowning:

Loved Odd Thomas and thought it deserved sequels. Very tragic.

Pinned between his (idling in neutral) car and a brick pillar. What a terrible thing.

Another member of the 27 Club. :frowning:

Whatever the other merits or demerits of the reboot films, his Mr Chekov was a proper treat, genuinely irrepressible and funny. RIP son, what a daft and tragic way to go.

Oh damn.

I do not understand this accident. Cars can be pushed off/away from you when in neutral. I can’t believe this wasn’t a crash.

Please post any details or explanation if anyone hash them.

I loved Into Darkness, when, after Scotty quits, Kirk put Chekov in charge of the engineering department.

If it was idling in neutral, it could only roll down a slope. Bit harder to push it off. Especially if you’re being crushed.

I guess that is what happened. Pinned to a brick mailbox, on an incline.

Must have been a large vehicle.

Even a Smart Car is 1500-1800 lbs.

What I don’t get is the press reports say he was found at 1am after failing to show up for a rehearsal. Who schedules rehearsals for that late at night?

Also, I wonder what Paramount is going to do in future Star Trek films. Will they write out his character or recast it?

Jesus. He was a real actor, he had a future.

He was late to rehearsal by several hours. I’m sure they didn’t immediately think to physically go over and look for him. They probably tried texting/calling and so forth and only went when they realized no one had heard from him or seen him.

TMZ says the rehearsal was scheduled for several hours earlier and his friends went to his house afterwards because he never showed up.

The driveway was apparently on a fairly steep incline. If the car was a stick shift, maybe he didn’t pull the parking brake quite firmly enough to hold it and it rolled into him?

RIP, very sad. Great young actor.

Always set your emergency brake when on any sort of slope, and angle the wheels.

I just read that his house was in Studio City. Very likely he was living south of Ventura Blvd. in the Santa Monica Mountains, 'cause that’s the more desirable real estate in that area.

Those mountains are pretty steep.

My mail lady died in a pretty similar fashion a few years ago. Story has it that she’d hit an animal with her SUV and was so flustered that she jumped out without setting the parking brake. The incline wasn’t overly large but SUV still eventually rolled backwards while she examined the animal and killed her.
