I was a devout fan of the original “24” series for the first six seasons/days. Season 7 (Day 7) was scheduled to premiere on January 13, 2008 but it was delayed for a year due to the Writer’s Guild strike. It began airing on January 11, 2009 and, after being off the air for almost 18 month, for some reason I didn’t start watching it again. I finally watched those last two seasons online about six months ago. I enjoyed them more than I expected, but I was NOT happy with the series finale…
I was very excited when I heard that “24: Live Another Day” was definitely going to happen. The first episode aired last night (Monday 05/05/14) and I wasn’t very impressed. I’m planning to make myself watch one more episode to see if it catches my interest. If it doesn’t, I doubt I’ll be watching it again. I’m very disappointed so far…
In the last six weeks or so, leading up to the new show’s debut, I spent just over 100 hours binge-watching Seasons 1-6 again. I fell in love with the old show all over again, so at least something good came out of the new show even if sucks.
I’ve revisited several old favorites online and I’m always amazed at how many things I’ve forgotten or never noticed when the show originally aired. Being able to watch an entire season in such a condensed amount of time (less than 20 hours) makes most storylines flow much better than they did waiting from one week to the next or the months between seasons. The down side is that I now find it almost impossible to watch series that are currently airing because 43-45 minutes each week just isn’t enough! I’ll just wait for them to show up Netflix or Amazon Prime Video and watch the whole series then!
Anyway, I was wondering if any other Dopers were fans of the original ‘24’ series? If so, who was your favorite character (or characters)? Which characters, if any, did your find attractive?
Personally, my favorite character was definitely the social-skill-challenged uber-geek- Chloe O’Brian. I’m also a fan of actress Jayne Atkinson, so I loved her as super-bitch Karen Hayes. I also enjoyed Jean Smart’s portrayal of borderline-insane First Lady Martha Logan. I also really liked Secret Service Agent Aaron Pierce because he was such a genuine and decent guy.
As far as attractive, I think the hottest guy had to be Tony Almeida (actor Carlos Bernard). If you look up “silver fox” in the dictionary (or Urban Dictionary) you’ll probably find a photo of Bill Buchanan.
I hate to say this, but there were very few truly sexy women on the show. One of the few was Julia Milliken who only appeared in a few episodes late in Day 3. She was played by Gina Torres who has always been a stunning beauty in my opinion. In addition to her physical beauty, the fact that she killed the sociopathic Sherry Palmer (ex-wife of President David Palmer) made me love her even more! But it kinda sucks that she turned the gun on herself and committed suicide 10 seconds after taking out the uber-bitch. You learn not to get too attached to characters on the show because ANYONE can die at ANY time by any means without the slightest warning!
Nadia Yassir (Season 6) was the only series regular that was a true hottie. It’s a good thing most of the other females were very intelligent because they didn’t have looks or personality to fall back on! =) There was something very unappealing about Kim Bauer (Jack’s daughter) and I never liked her. Both her looks and personality were dull as dishwater. Actually, Teri Bauer (Jack’s wife who was killed at the end of Day 1) wasn’t much to look at either. You’d think that the star of the show (Jack Bauer/Kiefer Sutherland) would have a pretty family. Then again, he hardly falls into the ‘hunk’ category…
