Any Advice for Baby Drag Kings?

A friend and I hatched the delightful idea of having a drag king competition at our college. We’ve approached the campus gay/straight alliance and feminist groups and they seem into the idea, and we’ve also been promised support from the campy folks in the classic movie and science fiction clubs. No date has been set, but it seems like this thing is really going to happen.

Problem: I have thus far been unable to find much in the way of drag king resources. I turned up all kinds of websites with hints and tips for men who want to dress in drag, but none for women! Since this is strictly an amateur show I think the “boys” might need a little help in getting ready. So I turn to the good folks of the SDMB for help. Does anyone have any helpful advice I could pass along to the aspiring kings, or know of any websites with such information?

No, can’t help you, but I think you have a marvelous idea.

I would be down there in a second.

Here’s a little bit:

I’ve only glanced through their site, but try the Smith College LBTA. They hold a drag ball every year, so they would surely have some info you could use.

I am just relieved the topic isn’t about what I was afraid it was about! WHEEWWW!!

What, did you think we were going to dress infant girls up in blue blankies or something?

I have known a few drag kings. My only suggestion would be to go to a costume shop and buy a decent moustache or beard to wear. Also, if you are doing a show, exxagerate what you feel are “manly” features such as a swagger or something like that. Keep it classy and don’t go into the belch-o-rama or anything else vulgar. This of course assumes you are not doing the camp version of drag kings.

HUGS!
