Any credible white rappers besides the Beastie Boys?

Sorry, but I think everyone on Anticon is absolutely awful. Its like the emo college rock of hip-hop all collected under one pretentious label. The rappers themselves are ok on the technical aspects, but thats about it. They try too hard to impress by rapping really fast while focusing on making the most complex and overworked rhymes they can. This makes for poor flow and diction; the beats and production are also lacking.

Interestingly, most of Anticon’s patrons are white suburban teens. The black hiphop fans I’ve “exposed” to Anticon artists have been universally lukewarm in their response (and this was before revealing they were white). If they’d known beforehand they’d probably be even more hostile towards it. I have a feeling there are VERY few black fans of Anticon groups.

are there any white groups that pull any black fans? i’d say the vast majority of eminem’s fanbase is comprised 12 year old white kids. white rappers tend to be whinier and more “emo”, i guess. if they try to come out “hard”, i have a feeling they’d be stuck in marketing limbo. no one’s going to take them seriously. i haven’t listened to anticon since they first started releasing records, so i have no idea what’s become of them. all i know is that sole’s first album was suprisingly good, and dose was, i guess, interesting… oh, and i had a slug record. that guy was the most mainstream of the bunch. he was the best anticon had to offer at that point. pretty good stuff.

As for Snow, he supposedly remained popular in Canada for quite a while after Informer left the charts in the US.

Snow came up on “100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders” on VH-1. Basically he was well-respected in the Jamaican rap/ Jamaican chant community before his hit, and remained so afterwards. Today, between stints in jail he gets by as a high-dollar club DJ.

Weren’t some of the guys in Cypress Hill (“Insane in the Membrane”) white?

Although they’re very much a Punk Band, rap has been incorporrated.

I think it’s a stretch to say Soul Coughing is “rap,” but if Doughty counts, then hell yes, he’s the best there is.

The first one I thought of was Everlast (formerly from House of Pain).

I put off posting in this thread cos I know f all about it really but someone has to mention Goldie Looking Chain. They are new, Welsh and getting quite a bit of attention in the UK. Their first single “Guns don’t kill people rappers do” is sharp and pretty funny in a dark sort of way.

We also have few hip-hop groups over here, the two of most note being Downsyde and The Hilltop Hoods.

Mind you, they all pale in comparison to the pure joy that Jurassic 5 can bring out in me.

I’m thinking you’ve misread the title. “Any credible white rappers **besides ** the Beastie Boys?” I read that as “We all know the Beasties are credible, but are there any other credible white rappers”.

You certainly put together quite a good history, though.
