So I just finished the (currently) last book in the Rigante series. I’m wondering if any other fans of one of the best fantasy writers going today lurk on this board. And Echoes of the Great Song is one of the best books I’ve ever read.
When I was over in Kuwait, I picked up Ravenheart. As soon as I got back, I bought the rest of the books in the Rigante series. Ravenheart was one of the few books over there that took me away from where I was. I was exceptionally sorry to see it end. Oddly, I didn’t like it at first, but after the festival, the book drew me in.
As for the rest of his books I’ve read, so far, he’s hit and miss with me. I liked Ravenheart and Stormrider, but I wasn’t much on Sword in the Storm and Midnight Falcon (although each book had their moments, I don’t think any of the characters in them were as compelling as Jaim Grymauch.) I’ve also read the First Chronicles of Druss the Legend–good book–and the first book in his Stones of Power cycle. I didn’t much care for that, but, as always, YMMV.
I’ve read a fair bit of what he’s written(the Rigante series, most of the Drenai books and some standalones) but I think my favourites are his * Jerusalem Man* chronicles - sort of post-apocalyptic cowboy stuff with a lot of Myth and large scale destruction.
Ana-To be fair, the first two of the Sipstrassi books have very little to do with the 3 Jerusalem Man books, which are very cool and kinda Dark Tower-y. I find there’s groups of books I don’t like as much, the stuff between Druss and Waylander in Drenai, for example. It’s good, just not my favorite.
The stuff between Druss and Waylander? There aren’t any books set between the time of Waylander (roughly 300 years Before Legend) and the time of Druss (60BL-1AL). Or do you mean The King Beyond the Gate, which is set ~100AL?
I’m a definite Gemmell fan, have been for years, and have read every book he’s ever published.
Oh, yeah - the two books of Uther are the second and third Sipstrassi novels, not the first and second. Just to avoid confusion there.
