I distinctly remember my favorite DM- a guy with a can of paint and a brush goes up to a wall and paints: “my wife is an enormous fat freak”. In the last panel you can see that it was her ass he was writing on. :stuck_out_tongue:

The sound of a clam squirting a man in the face: SHKLIKSA!

I had no idea the word FAP even existed in 1962, let alone that it originally meant to be hit in the face with a mechanical boxing glove.

FOINSAPP!

(the sound of being smacked in the face with a handsaw.)

My absolute favorite and oft-quoted Martin sound effect for over 40 years.

GREAT website by the way; thanks for the link.

It seems there may have been at least eight paperback editions of Don Martin originals. I have five of them - and could have sworn I had at least two others.

Oh, relax, there are plenty more to choose from:

Don Martin wasn’t my favorite Mad cartoonist, but certainly the most beloved.

I’m guessing Don was a cat owner judging by the way he drew his character’s feet (plantarflexed metatarsophalangeal joints). Most of the cats I’ve owned slept that way. Very cute.

I’m particularly jealous of my current cat (Mr. Tibs) when I watch him sleep. So relaxed. Not a care in the world…and adorable. Yeah, I’m sure Don Martin was a cat person.

Hinged feet.

One of my favorite early cartoons of his is of a guy who wakes up in the morning with a great big open mouthed grin on his face. He looks like the world’s happiest morning person excited to greet the new day.

His wife reaches into his grinning mouth and yanks out a coat hanger with a wet sounding “SPLORK!!!”

She says, “Been sleepwalking through the closets again, eh stupid?”

FumpFoopFlork here.

Plork Sloople.

Oh, and for completists, here’s a page of his art for science fiction magazines.
