For four weeks I have been playing the PC game The Movies and have become hooked. Unfortunately I found out that its sales were not well despite critical praise and a really nifty idea. I love making my own films and have several online
(if you want check out a few of my films http://movies.lionhead.com/studio/Kingpengvin)
I’m not sure why this hasn’t caught on yet despite the fact that there are 1920’s style deathrays available in the films!
Anyone else on the Dope played this or made any films? Am I alone here?
I figured with the number of Sims2 players that come out on the cafe once an a while a few may have crossed over
This just means that you can’t get the movies from the Lionhead site to automatically play when you click on them. You can still download them and play them and play them directly. Whether it’s in your browser cache or saved directly, you’ll still need to get them on your drive to view them. You don’t need to use Windows Media Player, either. They’re saved in standard .wmv format so you can use Quicktime or Realplayer.
Browser choice does not affect the game, just the community, and it doesn’t affect it that much anyway.
I played it in a big glut for two weeks when it first came out. And I haven’t really wanted to touch it since. I tried it this past weekend, and found that I really wasn’t very interested at all.
It’s a good idea, but the execution prior to unlocking all of the times, sets, props, etc, is a very rigid and uncreative game. Once you have everything unlocked, and you can make movies however you want, you spend hours doing so, uploading it to the community, and it disappears off the top page within ten minutes (at least, that’s how it was when the game first came out).
It had good potential, but in typical Molyneux fashion, it doesn’t quite deliver as one would hope.
