I’m getting kind of bored with my job so I’m looking for some other job openings. Many of the ones I’m interested in, though, require a resume attached.
The problem is I’ve never had to submit a resume before and have no idea how to write one. So what I’m hoping to find is some kind of template where I can just plug in the required info and save it to use as an attachment.
Anyone know of a decent site that offers this at no cost?
I have long been a fan of What Color is Your Parachute by Richard Bolles. He has a companion website, The Job Hunter’s Bible, which you may find helpful. Here is a direct link to the resume section.
I used www.collegegrad.com extensively last year when I was job hunting. I truly believe the useful info there made my new job possible. Mainly it is a bunch of tricks and tips, but they also have resume tips, basically anything in the job search process. It’s geared for college graduates, but as a 5 year veteran in the workforce, it still helped me out tons. So much so, that I bought two books for my younger brothers (the entire book is online, but is also available in paperback format).
Also, since you say you don’t know how to write a resume, get feedback from friends, fellow industry-mates, anyone you can think of to give constructive feedback. I knew the basics at resume-writing, and didn’t do a bad job, but I still had another 5 or so people look at it for their thoughts. You don’t have to put in what they comment on, but it can open it up to better vocabulary, industry acronyms, etc.
