I discovered this show back in the 70’s (watching every week on my local PBS station, poor reception and all).
I thought the show was well written and the actors were perfect in their roles. I had a crush on Felicity Kendal (as I’m sure a lot of British lads did, too).
I just got the first three seasons on DVD in the US (under the Good Neighbors title). I already had seasons 1, 2, & 4 on Region 2 discs. I was going to get the third season on Region 2, but, because of the current exchange rate, it would have cost as much as the box set!
There’s an extra bit in the box set of various people talking about the show including Richard “Tom” Briers and Penelope “Margo” Keith. Sadly, Paul “Jerry” Eddington died a few years ago, but his widow is interviewed. Unfortunately, Felicity “Barbara” Kendal does not appear.
I think the show holds up well and I’m glad there was never an attempt to “Americanize” it (AFAIK).
Any other fans?
Old Guy: “Felicity Kendal is sweetly pretty and I want to …protect her.”
Vyvyan: “I’ve never heard it called *that * before.”
Ok, so I’m a “Good Life” fan and a “Young Ones” fan. It can happen!
Felicity Kendal…<drool>
What does it say about me that I found her the sexiest when she played Viola in the BBC production of Twelfth Night?
Great show. Am I bad that I found Penelope Keith more attractive than Felicity Kendal?
Yes! Stone the heretic!!!
I am a good life fan. I have never known it to be called ‘good neighbours’.
It’s one of the very few pre-eighties things I like (I’m 26) and I admit to a slight attraction to felicity kendal.
An excellent series, with great performances from all four of the cast.
When it was presented in the US, the name was changed to “Good Neighbors” so it wouldn’t be confused with an early 70’s US show called “The Good Life”.
I seem to recall…now where was it…ah!
Knock yourselves out guys.
Would Margo have ever posed starkers? On a dare, or for a “special” birthday present? She’s been known to take secret lessons, etc. Maybe somewhere in a trunk is a collection of Margo nudes.
From an episode where Jerry and Margo were watching the Goods’ house while they had a weekend in London:
“Well! That’s the last time I play the tart for you!”
