My girlfriend is a board moderator, the sole one for a comparatively small board. She gets exhausted sometimes putting out flame wars and posting “welcome newbie” messages and pointing people to the right forum or explaining to people why they should go back to the thread they posted questions in rather than repost the same questions the next day if they wish to receive answers etc etc…
Since she’s alone with this, there’s no automatic cameraderie for her and sometimes she seems to be pretty close to “had it to here”.
Anyone know of a good message board / moderated email digest / whatever, principally dedicated to exchange of experiences / advice / etc between moderators of various boards?
I’ve got about ten moderators, on a board that gets about 200 posts a day. There’s very few flame wars, no posting of porn … just the occasional chain letter, moving threads to on-topic areas, and so on. I have a special “moderator only” forum for the mods to gather.
The bulletin board software publishers (vBulletin, UBB, IkonBoard, etc) have support forums, but none specifically for moderator support.
elmwood, I am thinking that maybe bb software publishers’ support bulletin boards would attract a lot of moderators, and therefore some informal “geez, what do you do when your users do such-and-such” type exchanges might come along with the techie support posts. Their board software is a derivative of the Delphi forum system. I don’t know if there is a Delphi s/w support forum somewhere or not, though.
