Any good movies on Netflix that I never heard of?

yeah The Real Rocky 30 for 30 was excellent. I love the 30 for 30’s.

I had never heard of “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil” until I got Netflix Streaming. Sort of a post-modern horror/comedy flick. Definitely worth watching if you are into meta-horror comedy a la “The Evil Dead” type of stuff.

Same goes for “Cabin in the Woods” although I had heard of (but not seen) that before Netflix.

Search for venom mob, reign of assassins, Gordon Liu, Alexander fu Sheng, and capoeira.

That was the last one I watched. I really enjoyed it and looked up the “Bayonne Bleeder” on http://boxrec.com/ which has everything you ever want to know about fighter’s histories. I was taken with how intelligent his last opponent Scott Frank seemed so i checked out what became of Frank. Have a look at his career in the link. I’d love to know what happened with him. The fight with Wepner was only his fifth. Five years later, in 1983, he was unbeaten in 21 fights and fought Larry Holmes for the heavyweight title. Before the fight he said, “It’s hard for me to hit a guy who made me so much money.” He got $350,000 for the fight. He lost on a TKO in the fifth round after complaining that Holmes thumbed him in the eye. He had said before the fight that if he won he would only stay in boxing for 6 months to give Holmes a rematch.

However he had another fight 4 years later and won that. Ten years after that, in 1997, he had another fight and won that. Why the hell he was fighting after a decade long lay-off I have no idea. I just can’t find anything after the Holmes fight.

Sounds like a 30 for 30 story to me.

Here’s a couple I recommended in a similar thread (I’d just link to it but it’s almost impossible to do SD searches on an iPhone):

The Awakening- atmospheric, attractively shot horror movie about a supernatural-events debunker who is hired by a boarding school that’s thought to be haunted (not sure if this one is still on NF though, since the movies do seem to rotate).

Black Death- about a group of knights in the middle ages who go on a journey to visit a remote town to find out why the plaque is nonexistent there. Listed as a horror movie but more of an action/adventure period piece really. Well made, interesting ending. For Game of Thrones fans, features Sean Bean (Ned Drake) and the woman who plays the red witch (Melisandre?). She also plays a witch-typecast?

This is a new rec- Iron Sky: utterly ridiculous plot- Nazis went to the dark side of the moon to hide out after WWII. Now the current generation of Nazis plot their triumphant return and takeover of Earth. One of those intentionally campy action/comedy type movies that usually don’t work for me. But maybe it was just the mood I was in at the time, but I found it really amusing and entertaining. Kind of a “shut off your brain and enjoy the ride” type movie. I see now there’s a new Director’s Cut version of it- bonus! I might have to watch it again.

Iron Sky totally fucking rocks! I own it on BR.

And now I added Black Death to my list, so thanks for that!

ETA: The Man From Nowhere is a Korean thriller that I think I noticed Netflix offering; it’s very VERY good.

Here’s a few more I don’t think have been mentioned:

Triangle: thriller, horror, mystery with very interesting … well, I can’t tell you without giving things away. Anyway, I highly recommend it.

Nightwatch, and Daywatch by Timur Bekmambetov. Russian science fiction movies.

Babette’s Feast. Delightful and charming in ways that can’t be described. Just watch it.

The whole “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy in the original Swedish. Excellent, with outstanding acting by Noomi Rapace.

Let the Right One In in the original Swedish. An engrossing horror picture.

Zombieland with Jesse Eisenberg was better than I expected it to be.

And while we’re talking about zombies, Warm Bodies was also surprisingly decent, I thought.

I don’t care what movies you usually like - Strictly Ballroom is great.

Butter and Magicians are two pretty out-of-the-way comedies that I thought were fun. Not sidesplitting or iconic, but very nice movies.

Look up a documentary called “A Band Called Death” about an early 70s punk band from Detroit. Before the Ramones, before the Sex Pistols, there was a band called Death. 3 African American brothers.

Fascinating.

I’m not sure if it’s still on netflix or not, but I liked “The Objective”.

I thought of another one: “Young at Heart”. It’s a documentary about an old folks choir singing modern rock / punk / etc. songs. Charming, funny, and WAY more entertaining than you could imagine.
