Hell, I hate the little [del]fuckers[/del] darlin’s too, they’re a traffic hazard, and they get in the way. Besides, I like pain. It’s the detox I’m not so sure about.
I’m not far from Indianapolis (and my brother lives there) Unfortunately I’m a hopeless recluse.
Ok, so I’m not a recluse, but I do get a little uncomfortable meeting alot of new people at once, so maybe next year when I have been at the Dope for awhile longer and feel more comfortable with a live meet.
Besides, Mr. Stillwell would probably think I’d flipped my lid, going to a message board party. Which is silly, considering he found me on the internet
Thank you Avarie537 for making the offer though! I wondered if they ever had Indy gatherings.
My neice’s wedding isn’t until the 27th but I’ll do my best to be there. Let me know when and where and I’ll see what I can do.
Wheeeee!
Can I come? I live in Indy. I don’t know what my schedule will be (may need to work), but I’d like to come.
A couple of years ago, before I was a member, bodypoet met me at a DopeFest. Convinced me to become a member. Fun!
OK, we’re getting down to the wire. I’ll be going to the State Fair on Saturday to drop off my husband’s pie entries and spending part of the day with my mom and a friend there. Is Sunday the 14th OK? I totally forgot about the fact that we’re going camping and canoeing the 19th - 21st, and I’m busy the next two weekends. So, for me, it either needs to be this Sunday or not until September 10-11.
All of our previous get-togethers have been 100% family friendly, barring raunchy jokes and stories of teenaged wildness.
So, do we want to meet somewhere? Go to a park? Hang out at my place (I do have a very enthusiastic 53lb lab mix)? The last get-together was a casual pitch-in at my place. Munch brought chips-n-salsa, VunderBob brought homemade eggrolls, and we provided grilled pork chops and … other stuff. (It’s been two years - I don’t remember all the details!).
I should be able to do Sunday. Where we meeting at, and given my legendary abilities to get lost, how do I get there?
If you want directions, send me an email with your departure point and I’ll send you directions. avarie537 @ yahoo.com.
Sunday sounds good to me; I’ll probably come after I’ve delivered my daughter back home in the early afternoon so she doesn’t have to do the “why are we meeting these people” thing. (This is not tolerable for a 12 year-old, dontcha know. )
Personally, given the temperature/humidity factor, my only request/requirement is someplace with AC…I don’t do heat particularly well.
If I can think of anywhere, I’ll pipe up.
Well, any decent restaurant is going to have A/C. However, they may not be thrilled at the idea of such a large table sitting and lingering for a long time. I don’t have a huge house by any means, but we had ten of us in our living room earlier this year (God bless foldable camp chairs!). We’ve also got seating outside if the weather cooperates.
We’ve got two birds, two cats, and two dogs, so you simply can’t be allergic to animals if we’re going to be at our place.
Maybe a family type restaurant or Pizza Hut or someplace. On a Sunday afternoon they probably would not mind too much, as long as we ate. Are there any MCL cafeterias or anything anymore? I don’t live in Indy, so I wouldn’t know.
I think there is an MCL in Speedway.
Maybe MCL would work. I’m not sure, though. The one and only time I ever ate there, I got horrible food poisoning (at least that’s what I thought it was - spewing from both ends every 30 minutes for 4 hours overnight). It’s been a couple of years, so maybe I can deal. :dubious:
There’s also Perkins, too. There’s one in Castleton, right off I-465 so it would be pretty convenient to major roads, even if it is on the north side. They have a side room that might be ok for a get-together like this. There are also several pretty good Chinese buffets around town that probably wouldn’t be too busy on a Sunday afternoon, and might be easier because then we don’t have to worry about splitting checks & so forth.
I’m personally pet-friendly, so the animals aren’t a problem for me, I just hate to see you go to the extra work, Avarie537.
(And, BTW, there are MCL’s in Castleton, Carmel, Broad Ripple/Glendale & on the east side by Washington Square.)
Yes, yes, a Perkins with a side room where they can hide us away from the rest of society. . .if these boards are any indication, that’s not always the worst idea. . .
Well dayam. I can’t make it on Sunday. Oh well. Maybe next time… <sigh>
Yes, the food at an MCL cafeteria leaves a lot to be desired-in fact, it’s barely edible (IMHO). But I was just thinking of places with big dining rooms. Perkins or China buffet or anything like that is fine. Somewhere on 465, easy for everybody to get to. All I need is a time, a place, and an exit number
(jumps) Someone’s paying attention? Ooooops!
I doubt I can make it BUT let me just note that I & Rue deDay are also in the Crossroads State!
And Rue is sure to compose a hysterically funny post about an IndyDopefes.
I thought Rue was one of those shifty Ohioans. . .though I might possibly give up a limb to meet the greatest MMPer, and one of the board legends, by my count.
There’s a GREAT Chinese buffet in Clearwater, just a mile or two west of Castleton. It’s the Forbidden City Buffet, and it’s HUGE! They have a guy on the hibachi grill all day, so you can get freshly grilled chicken, pork and beef, IIRC. I haven’t been there in a while, and I don’t remember how much it is.
Supposedly, the 8 Chinese Buffet in Castleton is really good, but I’ve never been there. There’s also a Golden Corrall (or Hog Trough, as my in-laws call it) east and south of Castleton, but easily accessible from the interstate.
