Any Ideas?

A little bit of background information first.

I have worked, as a secretary, for a small city for five years. At the beginning of October I transfered out to the mechanic shop. Today an email was sent out to everyone announcing the annual Christmas door decorating contest.

Now on to my dilemma

I have participated every year in the contest and even won one year. Everyone has fun with the contest and usually decorates their door with a theme. One year the finance department had Santa on their door sitting at a desk figuring out all of his bills while the inspections department did theirs to the theme of twelve days of christmas. In my other department we had a few good ideas like the year we made a fire place with santas legs hanging out of it and his list with all the employees names another year we had santa sitting in his sleigh looking down over the city with his tracking system. All the doors are cute and creative but for the life of me I cannot think of something original to do.

I was thinking of incorporating a shop theme into the door this year since I now work in the shop. I work around mechanics and a bunch of tools and vehicles. Bribing the judges with treats is very much encouraged and appreciated. Every department receives $15 for supplies and the door has to be decorated by November 29.

So can you help me out? I would appreciate any ideas you have.

A “Toy Shop” theme seems like it might fit. That, or something like “Getting Santa’s Sleigh Ready for Christmas.” You could incorporate tools & stuff from the shop in either theme.

You could decorate your door with Santa in mechanic’s coveralls, wrench or blowtorch in hand, working under the hood of the sleigh or welding one of the runners of the sleigh. You could also have an elf or two assisting him and other elves working on machinery (with big lables on them) such as “Teddy Bear Stuffing Machine” or “Toy Car Wheel Aligner” or something of the like. I can see it in my head now.

Those are good ideas, thanks guys!

Anyone else have any ideas?

I like the theme of Santa working on the sleigh. You could dress the scene up with details - one of those fender pads over the side of the sleigh to keep it from getting scratched; a pair of elf legs (with curly-toed shoes) sticking out from underneath; a calendar hung above the tool box, showing a female elf dressed in a small amount of red and white fur; an elf using a diagnostic computer connected to the engine, and frowning at the display on the screen; parts on the shelf, like sleigh runners, extra toy bags, spare red noses for Rudolph, etc.

Be sure to get pictures and post them where we can see them!!

No, no, no! Connected to Rudolph!

I stand corrected… Thanks, rjk. Nice touch!
