What about a klein bottle hat?
If it’s red he’ll be all over it!
I don’t know what this is, but if its goofy he would like it!
I just loOked up the Klein bottle hat - he would love it!
I love crazy hats too - also my daughter - anyone willing to throw some our way?
Do either of you have cancer?
There is only one possible goofy hat: the one Jayne’s mother made for him: Picture
Heh - no kidding. Trying to piggyback on a ‘Child with cancer, has had multiple operations, radiation, chemo has lost all his hair and is in isolation’ thread to try to score free knitwear strikes me as kind of…rude.
Does that hat have Pippi Longstocking ears on it?
I’m not a sew-er, but I did see a fun hat at the Aquarium Saturday. It’s a fish with a very wide mouth and lots of teeth. The mouth goes over one’s head, and the tail sticks straight up, so that it looks like it’s eating the wearer’s head.
This isn’t goofy, but I thought it was neat in a crunchy-hippy sort of way. Two rectangles of woolen blanket. The top was sewn into a cross. (i.e., each panel was folded like this: > and <) The top and seams were simply whip-stitched with yarn.
Here’s one of the hats I’ve already made him:
You can pull it right down so it looks like the meal is finished.
This is similar to the one at the Aquarium, only the one in the link is a shark. The one I saw was much more colourful and looked like a little bit piranha.
SORRY!
I missed that part (skimming threads while not quite awake)!
I assumed she was buying them. What an awful error!
totally agree.
In the spirit of the thread (and a late and not quite complete apology) I was going to see if I could order one of these for my kid -
or this:
Does it get cold where you live and does he like fleece? I don’t crochet anything that requires any skill (scarves are as ambitious as I get), but it’s just as easy to order two…?
Did the ribbing and trim last night for Hat #1!
Wohoo, I found the pattern online!
It’s a small size, but it should be easy enough to enlarge. So, alice_in_wonderland, do I go for wool or cotton? The Drops people are doing their annual spring sale on wool yarns at the moment, but don’t let that influence you. It’s a lovely summer cap as well (Scandinavia went crazy about them when I was a teenager, you could scarcely cross an occupied playground without seeing at least one).
Humm - either cotton or very light weight wool maybe - if it’s cotton he can wear it all summer which is when most of the chemotherapy is. However, he has lost a lot of weight and is having trouble regulating his temperature (he’s cold all the time) so a light weight wool would probably work as well.
Thanks everyone - this is awesome - he’s really excited!
Those are both really cute **Poysyn[\b]! If you want to order him one it’s cool, but not at all necessary - I’ve had loads of brain farts on here where I miss some key part of a post - don’t worry about it at all!
We are all in Calgary so the weather is pretty variable - really any goofy hat is awesome!
It’s for a great cause (now that I actually READ it).
With the postal strike looming, I’ll touch base once I order it and you can let me know where to send it…
I have the fish hat, Alice. A friend of mine made it for one of my dolls, but in big boy size it must rock the Universe!
Knit on!
