This coming Monday, I’m planning on riding into Washington D.C. and seeing the sights, especially the requisite cheesy touristy stuff. I’m near the Silver Spring stop on the red line, but I suspect you’re going to be spending most of your time downtown; Monday meetings keep me from heading out for a long lunch anyway.
So, even though I doubt I’ll be able to meet you there, I highly recommend the East Street Café (and their Thai iced coffee) in Union Station. It’s on the top floor, and has an indoor terrace that’s great for people-watching. It’s a short walk from the mall, or a really short Metro ride.

I also can’t do anything on Monday. But, if you could be talked into coming down on a weekend, you’d probably have more people than you’d know what to do with.
I’ve accepted that life refuses to be convenient for me. The deal is that I work Tuesday through Saturday, 12 hour days that leave me way too drained for traveling, even if I had a car, which I don’t. I’m off Sunday and Monday, but my only means of transportation, the MARC train, doesn’t run on the weekends. So I can travel on Monday or not at all, unless I beg a ride from someone, which I hate doing.
sigh, so anyway, no takers for Monday in D.C.? I promise it’d be a lot of fun.
I’ve already got a date with an old college buddy to tour the capital on Tuesday, but I’m sure an earlier sightseeing trip on Monday wouldn’t spoil the Tuesday visit too much.
