Any news of an X-Men 3? (Spoilers, no doubt)

I enjoyed the first two X-Men movies and wondered if another one was in the pipeline.
I haven’t found anything about this on the Web, so throw it open to you knowledgeable lot.

Watching Jean Grey nobly save the rest of the team from the dame breaking at the end of X-Men 2, it seemed there was a curious shape under the rushing water. (Also her eyes glow under pressure, and Xavier says she has unused potential.) Is she coming back as a more powerful reincarnation?

Not having read the books, I think:

She is supposed to come back as the Phoenix. She is altogether more popular, but, sadly, she doesn’t remember Scott.

About the movie I don’t know anything…depends on how much revenue the first two made and if the actors want to do it again.

:smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: Powerful, not popular.

They probably will; some of the main actors have other engagements right now and they’ll probably scedule it for release in 2007-8.

There has been a lot of speculation that Jean Grey will more-or-less follow the path of her comic-book counterpart and re-emerge in the much more powerful “Pheonix” form, but I have no movie information to support it.

That path, though, causes the spotlight to be shifted away from Wolverine, which I find unlikely.

According to its IMDB entry, X-Men 3 is scheduled for release in 2006.

Hey! I already said this.

I heard somewhere that they are going to finish the “Wolverine story-arc” before they delve into Phoenix.

I just hope that the do something different than have Logan fighting a female copy of him as the climatic battle. Once was cool but twice?

Does speculation really need a spoiler box? It’s a guess, not information. If it comes from somewhere that purports to have actual information, then box away.

Not necessarily. Wolverine as the third leg in the love triangle with Scott and Jean was a major component of the Dark Phoenix Saga. Wolverine was more appealing to the Phoenix’s wild side.

Most of the spoilers so far have implications for past comic book storylines that are still in print as graphic novels.

These comics are 30 years old. Moreover, everyone who reads comics knows what happens.

Bryan Singer, who directed the films, has been tapped to do the new Superman movie and is therefore not going to be doing the final X-Men film. There are rumors about who the new helmer might be, but AFAIK those are just rumors. Given the different possible directions the next film could go, I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if they decided not to settle on a script until they were pretty confident of their director. (Especially since most anyone who might direct this film is going to have his own take on the characters.)

Exactly. I haven’t read a comicbook since 1985 and none of this speculation is any surprise to me.

From the dame breaking?

Well, if said dame was Jean herself, then they’ve re-enaced the end of the Dark Phoenix saga already! ;)
Okay, here’s the skinny.

As was already noted, Bryan Singer is doing Superman, and then will do Logan’s Run, so no more X-Men directing for him. He may be an executive producer or something, though.

The new director (rumour has it Joss Whedon, but that is not even close to being confirmed, just fanboy wishing) will almost definitely follow through with the Dark Phoenix saga, whatever that is, and leave the Wolverine stuff for… the new Wolverine spinoff movie series that is concurrently being developed.

Gosh.
I was only trying to be polite.

Well spotted - that’s one of my funnier mistakes!
