I love my Kindle 2, but my mom’s newer model has more screen contrast and is lighter and all. I was fine with it, but now that Kindle does library lending I find that my older model can’t get books through the air and I’ll have to plug a cord in. I mean, I can deal, but eventually I’m going to want to upgrade. Is there a new model in the works, or will the 3 be all there is for a while?
The rumors about Amazon’s next device are for a color-screened tablet more like the Nook Color or the iPad, running a special version of Android and without e-ink. As far as I know, there aren’t really any indications one way or another whether there will also be an upgraded e-ink reading-only Kindle 4, and if there is, when it might show up.
Yeah, they’ve sorta, unofficially announced that their color, Android-based Kindle will be out in November. They are apparently working on a multi-touch e-ink device but there is not even a rumored release date for it.
Ugh, I don’t WANT a backlit color tablet. Perhaps there will be an e-ink price drop at Christmas.
Is the Kindle tablet going to be any different than the Nook Color? From the descriptions I’ve read it doesn’t seem to be. I have a Nook Color and I like it but I don’t really use it as a e-reader.
Well, the news is now that they’re going to release it mid-November. The new models have been announced. Looks pretty cool, and the cheapest one is just $80.
Do you have a link to this? Thanks!
I didn’t post that to be snarky - they are trumpeting the new e-ink Kindles and the color Kindle Fire on the Amazon main site today.
I swear I checked this earlier and there was a different splash screen.
WEIRD.
Maybe it has something to do with my cookies or something…
They probably changed the homepage after Bezos made his announcement.
Ugh! What colour is that? Is it metallic or a dirty grey? I hope they’re going to bring out a graphite version like the Kindle 3.
I ordered the el-cheapo one. I’ll report back when it arrives next week with my impressions.
I had a Kindle gen 1 a few years ago and decided I didn’t like it enough yet. Too bulky and kludgy. Here’s hoping.
I’m still using my gen 1 Kindle. I have seen no reason to replace it yet.
I still don’t, but I see some things that I might want to supplement it with.
