Any other place as proud as Texas?

I’ve known a few displaced Texans. I can’t say whether they’re prouder than everyone else, but I can say they’re sillier about how they express their pride than anybody else.

I lived in Laredo for several years in the late 80s and early 90s. There, the more cowpersoned up an individual dressed, the less likely it was that s/he was a cowperson. The actual ranch hands I knew wore boots like this, gimme caps, and tee-shirts. If they wore a western-style hat, it was invariably an inexpensive straw one.

Well, yeah. But that’s when the rodeo is going on, and Uncle Julio’s is only a couple of miles away. I’ll bet you see them in Ol’ South and the Railhead Smokehouse too.
