Any published collections of Analog Science Fiction Magazine?

I remember this SF magazine fondly from the 70’s & 80’s. Any published story collections?

They published this compilation in the 90s.

And there was a big, fat anthology called Analog that was given away as a premium for joining by the Science Fiction Book Club in the 1960s. I still have my copy around somewhere.

The way to answer any question like this is to go to the Internet Speculative Fiction Database:

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/index.cgi

Under the “Search the database” space on the left, put the word “Analog” and pull the menu down below that for “Fiction Titles”. (Unfortuately I can only link to the search page and not to the results.) You will get a long page of entries. Most of them are just listings for each year of the magazine. There were, however, several books put out that were anthologies taken from the magazine. None of them are in print, and they may be a little difficult to find, but you can go through that long page of entries and pick out the books and look for them at the standard used book sellers webpages.

I have Analog 1, 2 and 4, which were published in the sixties. I also recall some other collections that were printed in the same format as the magazine and are boxed up with my magazines. I bought my first copy of Analog in 68, but I have a fair number of older ones I found in used book stores.

Yes, Analog is still being published. I got my subscription copy yesterday. Even before there was an Analog, there was an anthology of Astounding - the copyright page on my two pieces of it say the first paperback editions were done in '56 and '57, so the hardcover was probably a bit earlier. Analog didn’t publish regular anthologies the way F&SF did.

Astounding/Analog is fairly interesting in that it has been published for 80 years now with only five editors. My collection is fairly complete from about 1948 - missing a handful.

I had forgotten to check for anthologies with the name “Astounding” instead of “Analog” in the title. If you’ll go to the Internet Speculative Fiction Database (at the website I linked to before) and put “Astounding” for the name and pull down the menu for “Fiction Titles”, you’ll get a list of all the anthologies with “Astounding” in the title. Again, a lot of what’s on this list is just the issues of the magazine itself. There are a lot of titles with the word “astounding” in them that are unrelated, but there are also a number that are from the magazine. They are also out of print and not easy to find, but you can try to see what you can find from various used book sellers online.

Gardner Dozois publishes the annual The Year’s Best Science Fiction which for my money gathers together the most satisfying collection of stories of the year.

he might also try putting Schmidt into the search, to eliminate matches from the Campbell and Bova eras.

Is this some sort of meta-joke for this thread?

Gardner almost never picks stories from Analog and has taken huge amounts of criticism from Analog fans for their omission.

Didn’t say it included lots of Analog stories. Did say it included stories I found satisfying, which the OP may deem of value if they’re looking for good story collections.

But if the OP is looking for Analog stories, that’s one of the worst possible recommendations. Any of several other “Best of” series would be far better. Why should he care that you find stories of an entirely different type good? Are you just not aware what Analog publishes? Do you think that all science fiction is equivalent and interchangeable? Or is this just the bizarre internet need to insert yourself into irrelevant threads?

Please, feel free to add me to your ignore list. That way you won’t have to get all worked up about any of my postings.
