Finding the right artist is 90% of the battle. A friend (who is a tattoo artist) wanted a very specific style tattoo. The artist who is “the best” in that style is in Atlanta, we are in western Pennsylvania. Rather than try to find a local artist who was acceptable, he hitchhiked to Atlanta, got his tattoo, then was arrested on the way home, totally changing his life.
A few months later the Atlanta artist visited Pittsburgh for our Meeting of the Marked.
Sorry! I’m guessing with will only with if you have Instagram. ![]()
But it’s way more memorable this way!
This particular artist is a 3.5 hour trip for me plus the pot luck that is Roman public transport. Not worth comprising for.
I do too! And it totally negates the usual message of “I’m putting this badass person on my body because I think I’m badass, too!” This adds a bit of Neil Gaiman, in my opinion. I’d see that and instantly like you.
Yeah, turns out the instagram account I used on my phone 5 years ago is still active, and I can see that on my phone. That’s a really nice tattoo. And in that style, you certainly don’t need a totally accurate helmet. I think it’s going to be great.
You guys are not doing a good job of talking me out of this!
I wonder if getting it in Rome would make it a Minerva tattoo? ![]()
Good excuse to eat Italian while getting inked…
Or stick with greek by bringing gyros to your appointment.
Interesting. For me it just shows the image, with a little notice at the top that I could sign up or in if I wanted. But that’s on desktop.
Was yours on your phone? Perhaps it opened the app, since you mention having an account 5 years ago. I find that some apps require you to sign in even when the website itself won’t.
Instagram (on desktop) is bad about requiring signing in to view stuff, but it usually lets you see at least a single linked picture, in my experience.
Oh, and, yeah, I really like that image, too.
Was yours on your phone?
I have an Instagram account but never use it. Using Safari on my iPhone I get a page telling me I have to sign in.
Was yours on your phone?
On the phone or showed me the image. On my laptop it asked me to sign in.
Is it this?

Wikipedia says the name of the artist is unknown.
Oh wow! I had no idea of the reference, but it looks likely, doesn’t it?
I was hoping this thread would get a reply from @Athena, who might have an opinion on whether you have a tattoo of her…
Brian
Ulysses and the sirens.
Not my cup of tea, but she is really imaginative with her art. I was actually kind of amused by the space alien with saggy boobs. Don’t see that everyday. You can see more of her stuff here.
Some of her stuff is too “cute” for me, like the stuff she does with cats and girls/women. Not that I think it’s twee, but that wouldn’t be something that resonates with who I am.
In case anyone was wondering how this story ended.
If you have a rock solid reason not to do this, please don’t tell me at this point!
That looks great!
