That’s a good song. I’ll have to see how hard it is to play. Singing it, now that’s gonna be rough. My pride might not survive the attempt.
It’s times like these that make me wish I lived alone.

I don’t have a request though I do want to give you props for singing. I cannot sing to save my life and hearing my own recorded voice is just painful. It takes guts to do that.

Bonzo Goes To Bitburg (My Brain is hanging Upside Down)
I once extracted a $75 contribution from Al Jardine while telefundraising for the San Francisco Ballet! He was going to give me $175, but I was, as they say in the biz, “spoused” – his wife wouldn’t hear of it.
The song ice cream trucks play.
The ice cream truck that goes down our street plays some freaky-ass tune I’ve never heard anyone else. And then it stops in the middle and shouts out “Hello!”
Please don’t play that one.
Anywhere else. :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack:
That was sort of the intention, very brave of you to try it
psst – you could use some help in the pitching department
Funny what you said about the Smiths song, I find I can play a Smiths song, or sing it, but not both at the same time. Because of (as you say) the weird phrasing. Do you not have any multitracking technology?
Meanwhile how about Subterranean Homesick Blues?
I’ll just post the songs for now and reply to people later. I think I figured out a way to turn up the recording volume, so I don’t think you’ll need to turn up the volume as much.

What a great song. I managed to do okay with the phrasing, better than I thought anyway. I think I could do the singing as a seperate track, but I thought that would be cheating.
Freebird

I did this one this morning. As I said, I don’t know the song, and the preview from iTunes only has some lead guitar playing, so I looked up the chords and kind of made it up. I only did the first verse.

You people are sadistic! I’m not familiar with this one, but the preview had the first verse, unfortunately for me. So very, very unfortunate.
In A Gadda Da Vida

I heard this song once, years ago, so I don’t remember the melody completely. Here it is anyway.

I’m not familiar with this one either, but the preview had the second verse and the chorus. The first time I recorded it I did it straight and it came out kind of boring, so I recorded it again while singing with a really nasal voice and a bit of a twang.
Fernando

Again, I don’t know it, but I did some of it from the preview. It was difficult, but I knew I had to do: I couldn’t let y’all down! I think I got some of the melody wrong.
Sunday Morning Coming Down

Singing this wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would. The biggest problem is that I don’t think the chords I found are quite right.

This is actually my favorite Ramones song.
I should get to the Dylan ones later. I’m almost positive that singing them will make the Smiths one seem easy.
I have a list of Songs I Will Not Do. Here it is so far:

OK, I think I am getting a better idea of the direction you are heading in as an artist. I did enjoy your reimagining of Fernando. Same words, totally different tune. Interesting.
“There is a Light…”, very nice. You put a lot of feeling into it.
Sir, I salute you. Fernando is the worst song ever even dreamed of, and I listened to yours all the way through.
Can you do
“Darling be home soon” by John Sebastion/Loving Spoonful
See, it’s like I said: making of an effort out of it gets you back the respect lost from lack of talent. Or something.
Actually I wasn’t expecting that to happen. Thanks for the compliments.
I just listened again to my recording of Fernando and realized I accidentally turned it into a dirge. It’s kind of disturbing.
Snooooopy, that’s a weird story about Al Jardine. You’d think that an extra hundred bucks would be nothing to him. It’s funny in a way.
Wow, that came out quite good.
Good attempt on Freebird. It’s one of those songs you ‘have’ to know, as some wiseass will call for it. Tradition, you know?
no chorus for Fernando
Fuck Her Gently, by Tenacious D
Please?
He wasn’t inclined to give me anything at all until I asked him if he was a Beach Boy. I was honestly asking just out of curiosity, but he appeared to think that I was implying that a Beach Boy oughta be able to cough up a few bucks.
The first time I contacted him, he agreed to the $175 contribution, but wasn’t anywhere near his credit cards. By the time I talked to him again, his wife talked him down to $75.
