It’s kind of hard to have that kind of thinking (as such) remain hermetically sealed off from the rest of someone’s life, or so one would think. Excepted would be those who were already nuts, and were thus likely drawn to Trump’s dysfunction (tho I will allow discussion of such if anyone wishes).

I know some Trumpists who had their insanity leak out into the rest of their lives a long time ago. Some large percentage of Trumpists must have already been nutbags when Trump came along. I’m not saying all the nutbags became Trumpists, but he was attractive to a lot of them.

trumpist insanity is so broad I couldn’t imagine what might fall outside its parameters, but two from that site are pretty amazing. One woman is convinced she’s text-dating Keanu Reeves and that he’s a secret agent for trump. And that, despite being worth $360 million, he needs her to “borrow” from their mother to send him $10,000. A scam, obviously, although if I were the poster I’d demand to see the texts and make sure she hasn’t dissociated and is sending them to herself.
The other is about a mother (it’s always Mom) sleeping with magnets under her pillow to stave of the radiation from the Deep State’s new street lights. Which is dumb; everyone knows you have to put the magnets in your ears, over your eyes, and corking your mouth like in Tommy.
The obvious example is the whole anti-Covid vax thing.
There were a couple people on the SDMB who were actively afraid that saying anything bad about Trump on here would lead to Trump’s brownshirts tracking down and killing them in Australia at some undetermined future date.
I just checked on them… neither WallabeesWillProtectMe or witsecDingo have posted or been heard from in months…

My theory about that is these women were never interested in politics before Trump so there is a disturbing and frankly deranged worship for him that makes them feel he was a protector.
That’s one of the reasons the “grab 'em by the pussy” thing didn’t do Trump as much damage as it might. A significant percentage of his female supporters worship his “Big Man” persona and would frankly have loved him to grab 'em.
Mike Lindell was an eccentric, but apparently reasonably successful, purveyor of pillows. He drank deeply of the Trump and Qanon wells, which led to him backing a quack COVID cure, becoming a very visible proponent of election-fraud conspiracy theories, and using MyPillow as a platform for his conspiracy ideas. He’s now gotten himself (and MyPillow) banned from Twitter, is the subject of a $1.3 billion lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems, and had a number of retailers remove his company’s products from their stores.
Then there are loons whose nuttiness leads them to embrace Trumpery and claims about election fraud (see posts about Ty and Charlene Bollinger in the antivaxers thread in the Pit).
The term that applies is crank magnetism, sometimes amplified by greed.
And he’s using that last part as evidence that he’s not trying to profit off his new theories.

One of the guys in the crew that remodeled our bathrooms said he wasn’t getting vaccinated because he heard the shots weaken the immune system. Of course, that’s the exact opposite of the truth, but some “news sources” are spreading that stuff.
They not only killed them for their adenochrome! they also deleted all traces of their existence! we are through the looking glass people!
Mine is about my mother as well. Since jumping on the Trump train back in 2016, I’ve seen her became a slavering beast online (Facebook mainly) who has alienated herself from what few friends she had and from me. The amount of vitriol and misinformation she posts is simply staggering. Her posts frequently refer to Kamala Harris as a whore, Biden as a child molester, is still posting about election fraud, is an anti-vaxxer, and her Facebook account has been suspended multiple times because she continues to violate their rules.
I can’t talk to my mother about anything serious because I no longer respect her opinions. So when I visit her ever week we just make small talk and rarely is anything of substance discussed. I miss the mom I used to have.
I could have written your post, only it’s both my stepmother and my father.
They recently moved to Paul Gosar’s district in Arizona – an area where they know no one – over moving to Oregon near me where I could offer them help when they need it. My father turns 90 in less than a year; my stepmother is only 73, but her health is failing and I’m beginning to suspect early onset dementia.
For the past nearly 50 years, it has always been agreed they would move close to me when the time came. But Oregon just isn’t Trumpy enough for them, so off to Arizona they went.
They didn’t tell me about their change of plans until it was already an accomplished fact. I had an inkling, though. When they were here looking at properties in Roseburg a few years ago, my father said he would never live in Eugene. The way he spat the word, “Eugene,” it was obvious he equated it with the most foul place he could think of on this earth. Meaning inhabited exclusively by liberal people.
So now because of their Trump-love, they live in a wholly unsuitable home thousands of miles from anyone who loves them – all so they can be loyal Trumpists in a super-Trumpy place. It breaks my heart.
My stepmom recently mentioned she was having a recurring nightmare about riding a bus and she kept getting off in the wrong place. I bit my tongue to not say, “Ya think?”
