I’m just wondering if any Dave Carter & Tracey Grammer fans are following Tracey’s collaboration with Jim Henry. I caught them in concert and have been enjoying Verdent Mile and Shadow of Avalon.
Any thoughts about surviving in the post-Dave universe?
I was at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival about a week after Dave Carter’s death. During the time slots in which he was supposed to play, they had various other performers from the festival coming on stage and playing songs that he’d written. It was a touching tribute to a hell of a songwriter.
I haven’t heard Tracy Grammer’s work with Jim Henry, but I’ll have to check it out.
Whoops. Misspelled Tracy twice.
And for heaven’s sake, it’s Flower of Avalon. :smack:
My deep apologies. “Shadow of Evangeline” is one of the songs from the album, which is why I keep getting it wrong.
The songs on Flower of Avalon are all written by Dave Carter. The Verdant Mile is mostly covers, but there’s a great fiddle medly of traditional tunes and a Tracy origina, and the title track is a very touching song by Tracy Grammer:
As I walk this verdant mile
Of memory with you,
The gentle arms of Eden
And the mountain get me through.
Lots of very catchy tunes. John Henry is a very impressive musician, IMHO.
I loved all of their albums, but haven’t been able to listen to any of them since Dave Carter died. The world is so damn unfair, taking a talent like that before he had really started. If you know of any of Tracy’s new stuff, please share. Oh, and Chris Smither does a great version of “Crocodile Man”.
I will definately be checking this out. I saw Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer in Ann Arbor once, and I loved them.
