Last year, the Sci-Fi channel played it, and I loved it (Murnau’s 1922 film, not the 70s remake). But it appears this year they’re doing a B-movie horror fest. While this is all well and good, I want classic horror, especially Nosferatu.
AMC is supposedly having a monsterfest, but Nosferatu isn’t on the list as far as I can tell. So is any television network showing it within the next week or so?
On the left side of the page devoted to that movie, there is a link to “on tv, schedule links”. Click on that, and you will see that Nosferatu (1922) will be showing on Turner Classic Movies at 1:00 AM-2:30 AM (E.S.T.), Monday, Oct 28.
(If the “on tv” link is not active, that means the movie is not currently scheduled to be shown on television.)
I don’t know about television, but I watched it just last night. In my church no less. Each year the congregation hosts “Silents in the Cathedral”. A cartoon and a short play, then there is the main feature. A speaker from the local silent film society gives background and history on each show. Last night we saw the cartoon “Sure-locked Holmes” which featured Felix the Cat. Then there was an “Our Gang” comedy short(I forget the title) that involved pranks played in a deserted graveyard. Then the feature “Nosferatu” The cathedral sanctuary was packed, and even smelled like a movie theater because our youth group sold popcorn. Hey, we Episcopalians are traditional but not hidebound. The films we accompanied by the cathedral pipe organ, a little different than Sunday hymns, but great music.
And Baker my (Catholic) church is doing something similar, but it’s called “PipeScreams”; they’re playing a Laurel and Hardy silent film and using the HUGE organ to accompany it.
