Last April, two guys were arrested for allegedly killing ex-Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell’s dog. Luttrell, a Navy Cross recipient and “Lone Survivior” of a bloody ambush in Afghanistan, had received the dog to assist with his rehab. He had named it DASY - each letter of the name standing for one member of his SEAL squad.
One report of the story is here (yes, it’s Glenn Beck but there’s also an interview with Luttrell). In addition to being charged with “executing” Luttrell’s dog, they were also suspects in a rash of dog killings in and around the area.
I have searched for an update about the case, but all I get are various pages concerned with the initial event and arrests. I haven’t been able to find out what happened to the two accused. Does anyone know?
Good question. In one of the links (maybe the one I posted), he described how he quite consciously had to tell himself not to shoot them* (he had run out of his place, late at night, gun in hand, upon hearing the shot that killed Dasy). Bottom line is that, no, he didn’t mete out private justice. But, he chased them at speed over 100 mph, called 911 during the pursuit, and let the cops do their thing at the roadblock that had been set up (in response to his 911 call).
*and, he was definitely considering it. In the interview (on Beck), Luttrell mentions stuff like not having a clear shot because of trees, etc.
I missed this in December. The guys that shot (and then beat and kicked) Marcus Luttrell’s dog were convicted and are now awaiting sentencing. It’s a shame that the maximum time they face is two years (and then only in a “state facility”).
Christalmighty. The dog was just a puppy! I’m glad Marcus didn’t shoot anybody, but if he did they deserved it!
(Well maybe not, but it’s just the way I feel right now.)
Karl, please keep us posted.
