I upgraded someone’s Netscape 7.0 to 7.1, and now their old email is gone. I searched the hard drive and cannot locate the old email. Is there any way to recover the old email? Thanks!

Win 98. Still no luck. Maybe the junk mail controls lost the email. Do any of the commercial data recovery software systems work?
I might be stating the obvious, but first off … did you try the import option?
With the e-mail window open, select Tools, Import. and import the old files to your new empty mail folder.
Netscape doesn’t upgrade itself, it installs a new version. With Win98, the old mail fils should be located at something like Netscape/User/user’s name/mail/ or netscape/communicator/user/user’s name/mail
Yes, I tried that. Looks like I may have somehow deleted the files forever. At least the pc owner does not appear mad!! Thanks again.

What did you search for? I never had this happen, usually a new install of Netscape is put in a new directory & the old Netscape is indeed still on the HD. Under Program Files:Netscape
I searched everything possible under Netscape under the Program Files. The new version of Netscape has something called Junk Mail control, and it is possible I clicked on it by accident, I suppose. It’s the only thing I can think of.
Okay you can try this then:

* Select Run... from the Start menu.
* Type "%appdata%" (without the quotes).
* Hit Return.
* Open the Mozilla folder and then the Profiles folder.
* Now open the folder of your Netscape profile (probably default) and the folder beneath it.
