Any WWE fans in the audience? (Part 1)

Corey Graves knows what I’m talkin’ about! The audience was being ironic hipsters!

Apollo Crews reminds me of… Argentina Apollo. Same acrobatic style, flipadips and so forth.

Corbin actually puts in some effort and leaves his feet every once in a while. The Road Warriors eventually stopped being squashers too.

The veterans are booked over the young upstarts tonight.

Gotta say this show has been nothing but razzle-dazzle so far. I haven’t been disappointed with any of the matches yet.

Summerslam has a tough act to follow.

Fuckin’ A, Bailey vs Sasha was like watching Flair vs Steamboat! Those two worked like 20-year veterans. That match looked brutal. Dayum!

Somehow the luster fades when the NXT girls work in WWE matches. It’s like they’re being held back so the Bellas won’t pale so much in comparison.

They showed a quick clip of Seth Rollins sitting in the audience.

Right next to him was Zahara - the NXT prospect whose nudes got leaked in his Twitter hack earlier this year.

Let the wild speculation commence.

To quote Rich Brennan; “Wow. Just wow.”

This may be the most perfectly booked PPV/supercard I’ve ever seen.

No excessively long promos. No filler. No bullshit finishes. Matches with decisive, clean finishes. Excellent wrestling. Great storytelling and ring psychology.

Summerslam has twice as much time tomorrow, and I’ll be impressed if they do half as well as this show has done.

Decent ladder match. Not the best I’ve seen, but it had enough thrills and spills. Overall an awesome show, and it made up for the tepid few weeks leading up to now. Summer Slam’s going to have a tough act to follow.

My favorite part was the audience singing the Olay song and KO acting like Sami Zayn suffering crippling pain in his shoulder. The announcers incorrectly thought he was mocking Finn and sucked the life out of it, though.

IIRC, Seth’s then-fiance went on from the Twitter incident to add the “No Seth Rollins” part of the amusement park sign, right? And now it looks like Seth is with the shameless hussy that broke up his impending marriage. WWE’s been known to maneuver personal scandals into angles before, so is this going to lead up to Seth being Zahara’s equivalent of the manager/husband? Lita was on the pre-show tonight, and she’s been the rl shameless hussy herself with Edge and Matt Hardy. Maybe she’s giving Zahara some pointers.

Bugger. Was so out of it from back pain and pain meds that I completely spaced off the show. Even rented two movies from Redbox and only got through half of one.

Guess I’ll watch it right now.

I keep waiting for Kane and Taker to be in the same storyline again. Kane has earned it. Even if he helps Taker tonight I want to see those two fight again.

Ok, I just finished watching the Sasha Banks/Bayley match. I cannot say enough good things about those two, it was an awesome match worthy of main-eventing -ANY- WWE PPV event.

If they’re considering PPV bonuses for NXT wrestlers, they need to give those two one right now. Cut them a check today.

I watch very little NXT and haven’t seen much of Finn Balor. I did catch Owens/Balor last night and I have one question…is Balor’s finisher really the Garvin Stomp? I mean, the Garvin Stomp? Out of all the finishers he could pick he went with the Garvin Stomp? Someone, please tell me that my eyesight failed me last night.

Top rope double footstomp, yes. He calls it the Coup de Grace.

In Japan, he also used a top rope DDT, a Fujiwara armbar, and a fireman’s carry GTS-variant as finishers.

Rolling Stone has an interview with Blue Pants!

This is my number one issue with Finn (number 2 is that WWE only gives him one paint job…but that’s another rant). I hate his finisher, just HATE it. It’s such a letdown!
As for Takeover, it had arguably the best moment in wrestling that I’ve ever seen. When Sasha broke kayfabe and hugged Bayley, and those four girls just showed that they’re friends, they’re leading this charge, and that this is the last moment we will see them all in this scenario. It’s right up there with DB being on top of the cage with an entire arena joining him in the YES chant.

Overall I think it was a great PPV for the reasons given (no stupid finishes, good wrestling etc.). Props to Baron Corbin for holding a good match, I think he’s been a victim of his circumstance and needs an actual rivalry and no squashes. Let’s hope this continues

Summerslam pre-show is starting.

Let’s see if the main roster can put on a show as good as Takeover was.

They won’t.

IIRC, the Garvin Stomp was Ron Garvin stomping the perimeter of his opponent’s prone body. I remember Kevin Sullivan did the double stomp, but his was the standing version, and it looked just as stupid.

The thing about Finn’s double stomp: when they show the slo-mo replay, you can see the opponent rise from the mat slightly and Finn bends his knees before contact, then Finn’s weight pushes the opponent back down, and the opponent kicks out his legs. They speed up the replay just before that last part, to try to make it look genuine, but really, it doesn’t help.

Finn really isn’t all that amazing, but he just looks so cool.

Guess I’ll comment here during SS and pad this thread out some more, at least until one of us sets up a chat room.

Hee hee the crowd is doing NXT chants during the opening match

HOW YOU DOIN’

OLAY OLAYOLAYOLAY

I’m holding out for some Fandangoing.

Lawler and Cole were just a little too excited during an opening match where latecomers are still finding their seats. The Hawk wins.

Ohh, Step’n’Fetchit’s on…
