Any WWE fans in the audience? (Part 1)

I realize this is how the last two WrestleManias ended up, but I would think that they should save the Triple Threat for the WM title match, so Triple H can lose the belt without having to be pinned (remember when WWE told anybody publishing reviews of the WWE video game that they could not show any pictures of Trips in any sort of disadvantageous position - yes, even in the video games, Triple H jobs to no one), then we can have he and Stephanie remind us of this fact every week on Raw for the next few months.

I still wouldn’t be surprised if it does end up at least a Triple Threat - Trips, Reigns, and (assuming they’re ready) either Daniel Bryan or John “I have to tie Flair’s record eventually” Cena.

Gotta admit I too am really losing interest in the main roster product as long as The Authority continues and the McMahons insist on ramming themselves down our throat and continuing a really old, tired and worn out story line. I’ll probably just stick to NXT for a while.

There’s now an official Lucha Underground comic book miniseriesthat will tie in to the main plot.

Heh, the preview was really small and unenlargeable, but I think I get the gist of it. Rey Mysterio is investigating the death of El Azteca. If I recall correctly, Black Lotus killed him in the season 1 finale. So they’re making Rey the star of this season.

They also showed Vampiro being taken away to the loonie bin, so does that mean he won’t be doing commentary? He was the heart and soul of LU last season, so maybe it’s an angle for a few episodes.

I like that they’re doing a long-range storyline that has nothing to do with the actual promoters. Dario Cueto is a purely fictional character and not a projection of some owner’s ego.

God, I love this! Seems like whenever we discuss WWE, we’re always pissed about the way backstage politics control booking. LU has none of that. The Wyatts would fit in perfectly here.

I watched much of the marathon this weekend, having missed the original airing (and as I’ll soon be ditching Time Warner and cutting the cord, I’ll miss most of this season). Vampiro was a horrible color announcer, IMNSHO. On at least a couple of occasions, Stryker had to remind him to do his job. I’m hoping they have another color announcer, not that I want to watch Vampiro wrestle.

I’ve read that Vampiro will be returning on commentary. Profightdb doesn’t list him as wrestling again after the match with Pentagon Jr., and as I understand it, they’ve already taped all the matches for this season up to and including Ultima Lucha 2.

So I guess his status as commentator/crazy person/Pentagon Jr’s Satanic master will be addressed in one of the promo segments. We’ll find out in a few hours.

Credit where credit is due - Vampiro picked up his game for the second season debut.

“So, who’s fighting tonight?”

Let’s see, by my count that was three murders, one psychotic episode and one broken arm. Oh, and a title change. Not a bad season opener.

And I guess it was King Cuerno in the pickup truck leaving the temple behind Fenix at the end of season one–I had thought the pickup truck and cowboy hat fit Tejano better, as I didn’t get a good look at the face, but obviously not.

*BAWANNNGGAAAAAAHHHHHH

BAAAAANNNNHHHH*

Vampiro is back brother! And for all you people who play that drinking game, brother brother brother brother brother!

Katrina and Mil are in charge of the temple now, which makes me feel out of sorts. I’m so used to a manipulative authority figure being in control, I actually miss the corruption. Dario and BL are hiding somewhere else, feeding Matanza wandering douchebags. No Rey Rey yet.

Neither Fenix nor Angelico showed us any death-defying stunts, but the season is still young. Ivilisse is making up for lost time, after having to hobble around in a foot cast most of last season.

So far, LU hasn’t knocked me out of my socks yet, but I have faith. The gods will demand more of their warriors.

Damn, Alex Riley has totally thrown off the nice clean-cut yuppie look he had before. I can’t really goof on him any more. He looks like he would he would stalk me and put my face on a milk carton.

I thought the Alex Riley - Bull match was incredibly clunky and looked like both of them had some ring rust. Also thought Alex looked like he was drunk or very high. Then I read reviews calling it a good match. :smack:

Mojo a creeper? I mean, he was always a bit of a hyperactive slime, but…
“Stop watching me while I sleep!”
“Noooot happening!”

I’ll say - this show fit more action and plot into one hour than Raw manages to pull off in three. Gotta say I loved Mil Muertes sitting in his throne the whole time like Shao Khan, dispassionately watching these mere mortals battle for his amusement. (And his fight with Ivellise went about as well for her as fighting Shao Khan usually goes.)

In other news, I’m gonna spoiler-tag this since it isn’t going to air for a month or so, although WWE’s already gone and issued a press release about it anyway, so feel free to open the tag un-spoiled if you’ve already heard the news;

Shinsuke Nakamura has signed with NXT, and his debut match will be against Sami Zayn at Takeover Dallas.

Also, Sheamus is apparently the latest main-event level star to join the “sidelined indefinitely due to injury” club.

At some point, WWE is seriously going to have to either start building a broader main-event scene so they don’t have the same guys on every show, cut back the number of live events they do a month, or both, because at this rate the main event of Summerslam is going to be Darren Young vs. Elias Sampson.

Because god forbid they would bring back Daniel Bryan…

Just really feel like all they’re doing with him is riding out his contract.

Eh it only seems like a short amount of time, I’m sure he’ll be fine. He wasn’t used too terribly much anyway.

As for DB, honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if “riding out the contract” is right because I would bet WWE is scared shitless of him breaking his neck in the ring. I think the concussion is just a convenient excuse to hide that.

I don’t even consider it a burying thing or something like that, I just think they see his injury the same as Edge and Stone Cold, see how he wrestles and say to themselves “Yeah I don’t even want to chance something horrible happening on live TV”

Late mention; it just occurred to me that when Striker was describing Mil Muertes on his throne watching the Fenix/Cuerno match, he mentioned his “coal-black eyes shimmering with hate”.

Which, as I’m sure all of you are already aware, is a lyric from Rush’s 1975 prog-rock operetta “By-Tor and the Snow Dog”.

This may be the geekiest pop culture reference I’ve ever heard in pro wrestling commentary.

Good catch on the Rush lyric Smap. I’ve been to about a dozen of their shows, but eventually got burned out on them.

I think the geekiest line I’ve heard from a wrestling commenter was when Renee Young on NXT said that Blue Pants looked like she was about to oppose the evil forces of Magneto.

Let’s see, SD Bit the Bullet Report, 1/28

Chris Jericho interviewed Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose, asked them what would happen if Brock wasn’t a factor in the #1 contenders match at Fastlane. Dean looked at Roman and said “Oh, I’d hit him in the mouth right away.” Roman replied “I’m not too worried. You never beat me before.” TEASE! This potential breakout was broken by Wyattus Interruptus, which led to the formation of the Main Event: 3 Wyatts vs 2/3 Shield and Jericho. I always love it when the Wyatts and the Shield tangle up. There’s no RR push issues, Dean can go extra nuts, and the Wyatts can act more depraved.

New Dayee and Miz took on the Usos, Titus O’Neill and Dolph Ziggler. Looks like Darren Young has faded back into obscurity. Titus is WWE’s goodwill ambassador now, since he invited a lot of local students to the show to reward their education. So, he gets the pin on Miz.

Kallisto defeated Neville. Somehow the match was kind of ehhhh, probably because Neville is a jobber now and the end was not in doubt.

AJ Styles defeated Curtis Axle and by extension the Social Outcasts. With so many injuries among the A-listers, Styles is probably going to headline WM if he’s not careful.

Charlotte defeated Natalya. Kind of hard to see any enmity between the two, especially with the way they bonded in Table for 3. The announcers spent more time talking about their lineages than the actual match, but at least they didn’t talk about Nattie’s cats.

R Troof and Golddust segment: R again thinks Goldie wants to get in his pants, but Goldie assures him he wants to form “Gold and Truth” as a tag team. At least R’s last name isn’t Shower.

Wyatts (w/Braun Stroman) vs 2/3 Shield and Jericho ended in a DQ, as expected. These matches are always fun, and RR looks more in his element when he’s teaming with Dean. Stroman pulled out RR when he was about to spear Harper, and a beatdown ensued. Big Show ran in to make the save. Looks like BS vs BS “Battle of the Giants” is imminent.

Oh dear God no. That’ll be worse than the Big Show TLCS match with…Mark Henry? I think? Slow and boring.

Did anyone notice that Dean made the sign of the cross when he won on Sunday? He also did it when he won the title the first time. I know he’s from Cinci which is a pretty Catholic town, but I can’t see Ambrose in confessional and singing Amazing Grace…

Never noticed that myself. Wikipedia doesn’t say anything about his religion, but a lot of pro wrestlers tend to be super religious (Sting/HBK/AJ Styles/Rey/Ted Dibiase Sr. and Jr./pretty much the entire Anoa’i family to name a few) so it wouldn’t be too surprising. It would be a bit humorous in light of the fact that he had an actual porn star (Trina Michaels) as his manager during his days in DGUSA.

And now Alberto Del Rio is out with a lower back injury.

The number of injured performers is going to outnumber the active roster any day now at this point.
