Any WWE fans in the audience? (Part 1)

Well, if they do go with the Kofi-Xavier-Big E group, you have Xavier doing the speaking, which should help. Of course, they’re still trying to work out whether they’ll be face or heels, and I wouldn’t put down a dime betting on how well they’ll be booked.

Maybe, but at least he *did *talk. He had a personality the audience could connect to, even if his voice wasn’t macho enough. Daniel Bryan has a sissy voice, and he’s way over.

Dean Ambrose is going to go down in history as one of the greatest bit workers in wwe history.

He is so funny, such perfect comedic timing, the look, the actions…he’s literally perfect.

I love every second when he’s on the screen

E’s a funny guy, in a goofy, geeky way. I’m not sure where the problem is with him–is he just having trouble w/ the bigger crowds (he was OK in NXT, from what I understand, where he enjoyed a fine kielbasa from time to time), or is Creative/Vince feeding him crap? We’ll probably never know.

Anyway, they had a tiny little cameo tonight on Raw. When… er, I forget their names, the producers/road agents/whatever that occasionally show up as muscle for H and Steph, were looking around backstage for Dean, they first ran into the Exotic Express (sigh), then Big E and either Xavier or Kofi were standing there (Big E was on screen; the other was just barely). When asked about Dean, they said something about “Nope, just Smart Athletic Friends hanging out”. “Smart Athletic Friends” is the name they’ve been working under on house shows. Xavier and Kofi are tagging as “Speed Force” and Big E/Xavier is “Muscle Bomb”.

Seems like Smart Athletic Friends should make some kind of snarky acronym.

I remember when Mick Foley had a coalition that lasted about 5 minutes of him, the Big Show, Test and Ken Shamrock. “We don’t go by words that make another word when you abbreviate them like SAG or MADD or whatever. We’re just a union of people you oughta respect. Oh wait a second, that does make a word. It stand for UP YOURS!”

Wow, what a RAW!

I had almost forgotten what it’s like to enjoy watching wrestling

There aren’t enough words/adjectives to describe the wonder that is Dean Ambrose, so I’m not even going to try. Everything he does is just perfect. He’s even bringing out the best in Rollins, whose character is beyond stupid right now. I won’t even pretend to remember the card so here are the highlights that I can remember:

 • Opening bit was pretty decent. They used the cheap heat to get rid of the Punk chants, but it’s almost halfway forgivable because Stephanie is a wonderful character/heel. I’m on the Steph bandwagon

 • Zigs/Cesaro/Miz triple threat was a really good match! I’m generally against triple threats because of the hard-to-follow-yet-its-still-predictable nature of them, but I was compelled on this one. I realized something though: I hated the constant changing of the titles, but it was because of that that I was interested in this match because I thought the title could actually change hands.

 • All Diva matches: Ugh. I hate the stupid WWE for ruining Total Divas. It was seriously a decent show when it first started because it gave an interesting perspective into everyones lives and the life of a superstar, now it’s just kayfabe central and it might as well be 100% fiction. Pretending a show that was taped three months ago is current is stupid and it angers me to no end. It’s the reality era, why can’t we sit in the meeting where Steph and the Bellas come up with the decision to turn Nikki heel? That’s way more interesting than pretending that Nattie and TJ are gonna divorce.

 • Mizdow is hilarious. Having him copy everything Miz does is a riot. I also liked that Trips was saying that he was basically a clown and likes to use him for some chuckles.

 • The pursuit of Ambrose was pretty funny. The inept detective angle was played decently well, the fact that they met Kali is hilarious because of how goddamn pointless he is, and how he can’t speak any english. Ambrose of course made the segment gold by saying “I was at the concession stand the whole time, I waved to you”

 • “We need to humiliate Rollins! Quick! Someone call Nickelodeon, I want the recipie for that slime!”

That’s all I can remember for now. Good job WWE, thanks for actually having my enjoy myself for once.

Those names sound like they come from a badly translated manga.

all your babyface are belong to us

Now, that can’t be right.

Shouldn’t this thread be tagged [SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT]?

Who knows. The mod added the tags, took them away, made a snarky apology, closed the thread, then added them back. He opened a can of worms and got mad at the worms.

That’s funny. I’ll have to remember that one.

Clearly, there’s only one way to settle this…

IN THE RING!!!

I don’t think they should pair Cena and Ambrose. Cena is toxic to faces on the rise, and ends up getting a lot of heels the cheers they do not want. The problem remains, what then do you do with Cena-- who draws well, sells merchandise, and gets a reaction from everyone? I don’t know.

My problem with Cena isn’t Cena, or his booking, or his character, it’s the fans. And not even his fans.

It’s boring to me that every time he does something the crowd boos, or cheers, or has this huge negative reaction. It’s a part of wrestling to voice your opinion, and I get that, but nothing is going to change and chanting “thank you rollins” is just stupid.

I get more angry when his music hits because I know I’m gonna have to deal with stupid fan hate, more so than I am mad that he’s allegedly stealing the spotlight

I agree. But what can be done about it? Like the Punk chants, it’s a problem not easily solved. Cena perhaps needs to be toned down a bit so that the fans can move onto something else. Involving him right now with Ambrose just hurts Ambrose. Not the fault of Cena, but there it is.

It’s the same reason why (recent history nonwithstanding) comic book movies and book adaptations suck: They aren’t doing it for you, they’re doing it for the mass appeal.

As much as us IWCers love to talk shit on Cena, and as much as the smarks talk about “how he ruins every rawr!” They aren’t the ones who spend…what is it for a trip to a show…$200? $300? with their kids, have Cena not be there, and have to deal with a hurt 7 year old because he wasn’t able to see his favorite wrestler in the world.

I’m as much of an adult as the next guy (probably less so) so I love to see the gamut of superstars, but even as an adult when my favorites aren’t on the show (not even counting being there) I feel mad and almost feel like I wasted my time.

You’re 100% right in the easy answer being tone him down a bit, get him off tv for a month. You’re making the adults/smarks happy with it, but you’re hurting the feelings of your future audience. Cuttng off your nose to spite your face

And don’t go anywhere…
…because that match is starting RIGHT NOW!

(cut to commercial)
What happened to the post-RAW show on WWE Network? Did somebody figure out that, by airing it live nationwide, it’s giving away the ending of that night’s RAW to the western half of the country (at least those people with cable systems that don’t get the eastern feed for USA Network)?

Er, what parent takes a 7-year-old to a RAW show that ends at 11 PM (if it’s in the Eastern time zone) on a school night? What 7-year-olds watch RAW on a regular basis, for that matter?

Besides, being booed out of the arena by half of the fans never hurt Ric Flair any.

Ric Flair was supposed to be booed.

Every parent takes their 7 year old to RAW, haven’t you seen the audience?

I venture to say on paper the WWE is going after the 18-24 demo, but behind closed doors they are going after the 10-20 demo (which isn’t a thing but you know) because that’s who watches the show. Those kids and their parents.
